-Visit all 50 states... well, almost all of them.
-Learn to fly a plane.

I've done these.

BTW: Denali is a huge letdown unless you can hike into the backcountry. NPS allows only one road, and you have to get crammed on a bus with dozens of tourists to get far into the park, unless you hike or fly in. I was fortunate to win the "lottery" on Sept and drive all the way in, which they do one weekend a year for residents of Ak.

Wrangell-St. Elias is where it's at.

I've crossed a lot off of my list that I didn't bother to list and will cross a little more off in the next month or two. I have my entire life to do everything I want to do. I'm in no hurry.

I've already visited over half of all states and about half of all of the major Civil War battlefields.

That's what I would want to do. I love hiking and hate being around crowds for the most part.

I flew into Denali (small outpost at the end of the road with a tiny lodge, can't recall the name). On the prop plane was the only time I saw the peak of McKinley the whole time. The rest of the time it was shrouded in clouds when looking from the ground. Hiked for half a day in the area of Wonder Lake, which I later regretted when I realized how many grizzlies were all around.

Purchased a one-way bus pass (at said tiny lodge) and got picked up at a ranger station somewhere near Wonder Lake. Imagine being on a school bus full of Japanese tourists leaning out of windows taking pictures.

Well, you can do both (hike and avoid crowds) there. Brush up on your bear skills. Aggressive bear and moose are everywhere.

One of the most incredible sights I've ever seen was hiking into the park, watching the clouds lift and seeing the mountain for the first time, with lenticular clouds above it.

That mountain is huge. It's the tallest land based mountain in the world (not highest ) but is just incredibly massive. You can see it from several hundred miles away on a clear day.

I also want to surf Icy Bay, in the shadow of Mt. St. Elias which is the second tallest land based mountain in the world.

I'll never understand this phenomenon. I was walking down Peachtree Street last week and in front of the Fed there was a group of them taking picture after picture of the building, trees, and even the people walking past them.

Be advised the hiking kind of sucks, because you are walking on thick, deep, wet moss that gives a lot with every step. I have no idea what it is called, but its sort of like always walking in mud, at least from a "wear your arse out" perspective.

You need rubber boots, too. Its gorgeous, but as soon as I caught the bus near the lake, we rounded a bend and started seeing grizzlies....everywhere. Grizzlies on the hillside, shrouded in mist. Grizzlies walking down the little gravel road we were on. I was about shitting myself right then and there realizing I had been hiking in wet moss in rubber boots in what amounted to a grizzly sanctuary.

Yep, a photographer was killed there last summer.

You can get out of the tundra and up into the hills, but the hiking isn't any easier.

It was an experience.

The bus ride out seems like it took something like four hours I think it was 90 miles, gravel road, and the driver stopped every time there was interesting wildlife to photograph. It wasn't too bad. Got to see Dahl's sheep way up on a hillside at some place with a washed out riverbed and porta potties. Its beautiful there. Its full of nature that can kill you, if that's your thing.
