I'm sure there won't be any issue here. The NAACP isn't about racism or exclusion so I'm sure they will welcome her with open arms.

I'm being sarcastic, but really that SHOULD be their response.

They do, apparently.

quote:

"One organization that appears to be standing behind her is the NAACP. The group, historically one of the most prominent in supporting causes important to the African-American community, said that Dolezal is "enduring a legal issue with her family" and that "we respect her privacy in this matter."

"One's racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership," the group said. "The NAACP Alaska-Oregon-Washington State Conference stands behind Ms. Dolezal's advocacy record."

CNN talks to her family

That's...that's actually kind of admirable. Weird as hell, but they're at least cleaving to the principle of an equal opportunity society.

They've always said they hold that stance, but I am surprised to see them actually hold to it.

In the visible spectrum, white reflects light and is a presence of all colors, but black absorbs light and is an absence of color. Black can be defined as the visual impression experienced when no visible light reaches the eye.

ETA: A good example of this, on a computer, is the RGB color model. Red, Green and Blue light are added in various ways to produce different colors. Values range from 0 (no color) to 255 (full color). RGB 0,0,0 is black (absence of color) while RGB 255,255,255 is white (all colors).

She shouldn't resign. You don't have to be a particular race to have a job that looks to advance an agenda.

Keep the job, and face the storm, make them fire you... And then sue!

I agree. The NAACP is not closed to black members. Neal Boortz was once a card carrying member, and you can't get whiter than Neal Boortz.

She should have rode this out. Her mistake wasn't being white, her mistake was being stupid. She could have said she's biologically white, then turned it into a debate about DNA showing all people are a mix of a couple of different things. Her adopting her black brother, being part of the black culture, etc, she could have been a hero on this. But she too dumb.

The scandal isn't about her being white. The scandal is about her being a liar.

You just got it wrong.

It's about the NAACP being too chickenshit to take heat on anything, and this director being too stupid to take a leadership role, which is what she was paid to do. If you can't represent yourself well, then how will you represent the organization?

There's not a lot of black people in the area anyway.

White is made up of all colors of the light spectrum being reflected back to the eye and black is, as you say the absence of light being reflected to the eye.

Didn't know if this has been covered yet, but Rachel has been apparently helping a person (who is black) who was allegedly victimized by her brother. Her brother is facing charges and the parents are apparently pissed at Rachel.

And if I was raised in that family, I might identify as anything other than what my family was.

Im just delighted all this has happened. Now that I know that I can identify with a particular race or sex and get applauded for it, I am going to apply for Pell grants etc, claiming identification as legitimate reason for application. If I say Im an Apache Indian woman, who the frick is gonna argue with my big white male arse?

Finally, somebody gives an explanation. I haven't been paying close attention, but I've seen enough to wonder what the hell is the matter with her family. Who takes a family kerfuffle and goes on national TV shows to talk about it? All their mealy-mouthed "We only want the best for her" stuff doesn't come close to convincing me that they're not vindictive jackholes who are trying to humiliate their kid in front of the entire country. Doesn't matter what you think of her behavior -- whether or not you think she's the biggest nitwit of all times, the parents and siblings just come across as godawful human beings who are willing to burn everything to hurt their kid.
