Snyder proved in MoS that his Superman is not the same one we are all used to when he snapped Zod's neck. I'mma guess that is the drive for conflict somewhere.
Personally, I like this incarnation better. I always thought it was rather unherolike to catch a mass murderer only to know he is going to get tossed into confinement, escape later, and kill many more people. Snyder's Supes did what he had to do.

The Dark Knight Returns had a cool combo of Batman fighting in his exosuit and Green Arrow hitting Superman with a kryptonite arrow before the fight. Batman was able to pretty much hold his own then. Of course Superman had just been through a nuclear blast
