I am a mortgage loan officer in SC, and I can assure you that it is true. Some of the applicants we get couldn't buy a pack of gum with their credit, much less a buy a home.

Even experienced borrowers, ones with long established credit histories will let their medical bills, DirecTV bills, cell phone bills all go to collections. It is an epidemic.
