My two picks are down to Auburn or Ole Miss. Curious as to the pros and cons of both schools from an outside source.

Well your school logo is the interlocking AU...

What state do you live in? What do you want to do? I'm assuming you are a senior in high school? What are your hobbies? All of this will affect how anyone presents pros and cons.

Okay more info, I live in Georgia. Out of state is much more expensive for Auburn and I have a much better chance of receiving substantial scholarships from ole miss. I plan on majoring in either economics or finance. I've been an Auburn fan my whole life but I'm having to look at which school is going to put me in a better position for a career and if Auburn is worth the extra money.

where do you want to live after school?

You say you can get more aid at OM, are you concerned about school debt?

In Auburns Harbert School of Business, the two most popular degrees are Accounting/Finance and Supply Chain. Acct/Finance is well regarded at Auburn. The Supply Chain major is very good, but Tennessee is the best in the SEC for that major.

For 28K a year, you need to decide how much of an AU fan you really are. OOS tuition is expensive. I know, I have kids who went to UGA and Ga Southern because of Hope Scholarship.

If you really are finance interested, (I hate to say this), the Terry School at Georgia is very, very good My other daughter got a double major in Finance and International business and now works for Deloitte Consulting.

No knowledge of Ole Miss other than it seems every kid who couldnt get into other schools either got accepted to Bama or Ole Miss.

Preferably the southeast but I'd live anywhere.

I'm more concerned of how it's going to affect my parents financially. They said they will pay the majority of school but I want to make the decision that is going to be worth the money. I'm willing to take out student loans if it's worth it.

Some people like some schools better than others. My one kid at Ga Southern right now just didnt want to go to a school that big.

I asked about debt because if it is a concern, the question is somewhat of a no brainer. You are going to get a similar education at either place.

Location wise, if you are going to move to atlanta after, you will have more in roads with a future career at Auburn.

I've heard from multiple people that a degree from Auburn holds more weight than one from Ole Miss.

depends on your location. but thats more along the lines of an inroad to an interview. pretty much all similar undergrad degrees in the SEC hold about the same amount of weight.

I'd like to live in Atlanta but it honestly wouldn't matter to me where I got a job.

Depends on the degree.

An engineering or architecture or vet degree from AU carries a lot of weight. Business degree, depending on major not as much. Finance degree from AU being most valuable out of the school of business.

Again no knowledge of OM.

Most of the Vet programs in the SEC are all top notch

engineering[AU]
lead is dwindling

architecture[AU]
Still better, but Id considered architecture somewhat of a professional/post grad degree. its a specialized 5 year program

If you're going into business, it's more about "who you know". Your degree from Auburn or Ole Miss isn't going to score you an insane job, but a good recommendation will. Either school you go to, it's important to get involved in the business fraternity, campus activities, etc. to get your name out there. Ole Miss school of business is okay. Most of my friends that graduated from there all got jobs. Mostly good ones, too.

I'll give you some advice I wish someone had given me when I first went to college. Prepare to fall out of love with your initial major choice. I switched majors twice when I went to Bama, and still graduated unsure of what I wanted to do for a career. Several of my friends at Bama switched majors as well. It's really common. So just don't look at Finanace or Economics. You may get there and decide you hate those classes, so consider a school that's strong in other areas. With that, from what I know about both I'd lean Auburn.

All I really know about Ole Miss though is they have a really strong Accounting program. I would say if you're considering Finance/Economics, look into Accounting. It's a much more marketable degree, especially if you go the CPA route.
