I left the names, since they posted on the ATF site, I don't figure they'd mind.

The Harpers Ferry Model 1855 musket was widely used during the American Civil War by both the Union and Confederate forces. It was a muzzle loading long gun which fired a .58 caliber Minie ball at a rate of approximately 2 rounds per minute. The weapon was manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Armory.

The Harpers Ferry Armory was the second federal armory commissioned by the U.S. government, and was located in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia while the first federal armory was the Springfield Armory, near Springfield, Mass.

During the Civil War, the Harpers Ferry armory became a site of great strategic importance because it was located very close to the Mason-Dixon line.

Photographed is a rifle with a flintlock mechanism manufactured at the Harpers Ferry Armory.

There are very few of these muskets that survive in good condition today.

Each Friday, take a look inside ATF's legendary firearm reference library of more than 15,000 firearms. This working reference collection contains everything from homemade single-shot devices crafted from writing pens, to machine guns from bi-planes used in World War I.

John Price The Barrett .50 BMG was widely used by the Mexican cartels on the US/Mexico border in 2015/2016 to shoot at US law enforcement, notably Brian Terry.

Andrew Griggs That's great, but the pic is not of a model 1855. The 1855 used a Maynard percussion priming system and was not a flintlock. I would hope some one working at the "ATF's legendary firearm reference library" would know that. Like the feature, disappointed in the execution.

Joyce Mitar Morgan thanks for sharing its great to see the old "firearms" and since it was not built after 1898 no license is needed to collect this gun...

Kyle Maxwell Back in 1855, 2 rounds a minute was considered a assault weapon.

Antonio Zuniga The "assault rifle" of the last rebellion.

Edward Crawley Unfortunately this is not a Harpers Ferry 1855 Musket pictured here , rather it's a 1814 Harpers Ferry musket in .54 cal. SMH.

Evan Winchester Surprised you guys didn't give it to a Mexican cartel!

Beau Rhine Pretty sure the next rebellion will be using totally different firearms.

Jeff Ellison But according to federal law this isn't a fire arm. You of all people should know that

Victor Wilder Ratz Oh THIS is the gun you folks really think we should all have lol

Brad Oneal You can manufacture and ship these en masse to Mexico can't you?

great comments. This is another example of why the federal government should not be in charge of anything.

Forget the trolling, you know what is really amazing?

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. That's supposed to be what they do and yet they can't take one look at the picture, see it is a flintlock instead of percussion cap, and immediately know it isn't a civil war rifle.

I know dick-all about old guns, but I am confident that most of the screws in the FedGov are not qualified for their positions. I am confident that they "reflect the diversity of America" and most "Americans" are borderline retarded.
