Hey thanks everybody,
Excellent information as usual and some great second choices shite, I'm thinking about just seeing if I can get a package deal on a few of these and pass the old ones I have down to the yard sale next spring.
I just have a grudge against Coleman as the last few inexpensive wally world units are crap, the top line might be fine but, this stage of the game I am going top, or top mid-grade...

There is a precooling method. As long as you do this, it will indeed keep ice for days.
This-and you have to keep it closed for it to keep ice for days. If you're in your cooler a lot, then it's not worth it.
I like mine (45) for keeping cleaned fish for a week after a fishing trip or on longer canoe trips (3 nights +) for keeping food. If I'm going on a shorter canoe trip (2 nights) with just one cooler, I bring the Igloo Marine.

They are way too heavy for a day trip if you have to carry one more than 20 feet. If you are going to a remote area for several days at a time they are worth it.

Most people do not have a cooler or freezer big enough to properly pre-cool a yeti or grizzly ... but if they do, then yes, pre-cooling them works great.
At the restaurant would would fill ours about a quarter full of water and leave it in the freezer overnight the night before we loaded up for a trip. That four or five inches of block ice on the bottom of the cooler makes a big difference as it melts even though ... yes, cold goes down, not up.

Yep, I've been using the block ice method since I bought a min freezer in 1996...
There is a reason people delivered ice in blocks before the modern age it lasts and lasts!

Look at the Extreme Cold Series coolers.

yeah thats what i realized as well. i was given one as a gift from a guy who was given about 10 of them. seems like it would be great for a fishing trip or out on the lake. its not really a ton of money but who wants to spend $400 on a cooler
