Just no!!!!

i get your sentiment fully, but the fact of the matter is that it costs thousands upon thousands of dollars to do good for somebody in most states.

It does not look like i can do it in the state of TX for less than $18,500. That's the minimum, assuming that the birth mother is able to take care of her medical expenses or medicare is.

Just mind blowing to me.

The wife and I adopted a biracial child in 1997 from a agency called Adoption Link based in Chicago. Overall a real positive experience, not sure if Adoption Link is still around but you might google and see.

And I stated that things vary from state to state. $18,500 is outrageous!!! Is this amount for adopting any kid in the "system"?

depends on what you mean by "the system" that's the costs i've found at 3 different adoption agencies in TX. Going through as a foster or foster to adopt parent can be little to nothing.

Check around to see if there are any local charities that can assist with the costs. I know there are a couple here locally, though they are needs-based and you may not qualify.

It's a damn shame adoption in this country is so cost prohibitive. Wife and I looked into it a few years ago and the price turned us off.

I'm starting to get a better picture and why the costs are what they are (I don't agree with them but that's a different story). I didn't do the foster care to adoption thing, just a straight adoption through the Dept. of Children Services (every state has one but maybe called something else). IF you're looking for a newborn, there are none or very few going through DCS, that's why they have adoption "agencies" to broker a deal in the baby trade. These "agencies" are nothing more than baby stores getting rich off of the states and people looking to adopt. I completely understand why people want to adopt newborns vs older kids or even using a surrogate but adopting an older kid is pretty cool too. Good luck to everyone trying to adopt!!
