I'm surprised being from the delta you've never heard that term
I really don't know why it's a racist term..but then again I don't know the background of it or what it means. It's a word that makes little sense to me.
I just tried to look it up and found this nice website with every racist word known to man and it's meaning. Enjoy

Ummmm ... I think it's more about generational ignorance, as in many millennials are ignorant as frick.
But hey - it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Rather, (and I already know the answer to this in advance but can't wait to read all the WAGs) ...
1 - Why do African-Americans, who regularly slur one-another with the N word never, not ever, refer to one another as jigaboos? What do they find so repugnant about the word and why?
2 - What is the origin of the perjorative "jigaboo?" (Hint, see also jiggabo and jigarooni)

Well jigaboo isn't automatically changed to ***** on TD so not a slur. This is the correct way to judge if a word is a slur

fify--there are plenty who avoid the use of the word at all costs.

More than anything, it's just not a common word. If a word isn't a common slur or a part of regular vocabulary, it tends to fall by the wayside in general usage.
Like I said, I'd never heard the term myself before today.

Is anyone actually offended by jigaboo? I can't keep track off all the names for blacks that are offensive.
I had forgotten about "tar baby" until one of Chevy Chase's SNL skits was posted the other day.

Well to tell how small a town it was, can you name Alvin Garrett's college? That's how small it was.

I've been through graduate school and had never heard the term until today. I must've been sick the day they taught it to us.

Well, for anyone who doesn't know or doesn't believe what the dumb female anchor said is a racial slur, just watch the reaction of her co-anchor, or ask an African American in the Deep South, particularly one over the age of 35. It's a slur.
I don't think it's used as much as it once was, thank goodness, but it still is said, unfortunately, in a derogatory manner toward blacks. It just probably depends on where you are. I know it is still used in rural areas of the south, and generally by older people since it was a more "popular" slur in their day, & people who have been raised hearing it frequently, which I suspect is what happened in this case with the dumb female anchor.
I truly don't understand how one cannot know that word is a racial slur after hearing it used. A pretty good rule of thumb is that when a slang term is used in place of "black person," "African American," etc., you can be pretty positive it is not done so in a benevolent manner, so don't repeat it. ... Evidently, this girl is too stupid to realize that.

I've heard the term all my life and never, I repeat never, has it be said to describe a particular group of people in a nice way.
The anchor person is a dumb racist count who needs a BBC put in her arse.
