Belle, I parked across the street from Churchill Downs a couple of years ago when I went to the UK/UL game. I had no idea that Churchill Downs was in the middle of a residential area. Shocked me actually.

Yep. And not the best residential area either.

Used to the white fence that is there now separating the neighborhood from the Downs was rows of houses. And on Derby Eve they would shut off Central Avenue and it'd be one huge block party. They shut it down a few years back though. Ironically they never had the trouble they had with people on Broadway cruising the day of Derby but it still kept going until recently.

Yeah, I could tell. I had actually missed my turn, was going to part at the convention complex and ended up missing my turn. The next thing I knew there was the stadium in front of me and a cop making me turn left and go up over the hill past the stadium and baseball complex.
I was trying to figure out how to turn around to head back and saw some boy scouts parking people for $10 at a bank parking lot, so I pulled in there.
I looked up and saw this huge complex and didn't immediately recognize what it was, so I got out of the car and walked up the sidewalk and saw the twin spires. Then saw all the houses across the street and down the other side.
Couldn't believe it.

Also, one of the coolest things I've done in Nashville is sitting in Tootsies from the time they opened at 9 on a Saturday morning until I couldn't sit up on my bar stool anymore. The girl that was singing was absolutely incredible as well. Bought her a beer or two and met the owner who covered my last scotch before things went blurry. Thankfully the girl I was with made sure I got back to the hotel without ending up in jail.

ETA: the point to that :csb: being that spending a Saturday in Tootsies is up there with the other two as far as experiencing Nashville goes.
