I am Christian and do not celebrate Christmas or Easter because of such things. People tend to follow what they've grown up with and do not really question things. But once you start asking yourself the seemingly obvious questions like "where did December 25th, Christmas trees, Yule logs, Santa, the Easter bunny, Easter eggs, Lent, etc come from?" Christians find answers they do not like and do not want to acknowledge.

Not really. The appropriation of pagan symbols into a celebration of Christmas doesn't really mean anything. A religion will take on symbols and forms from the culture around it because religion is inseparable from the culture in which is operates. That is a separate question from whether or not the religion has truth in it.

I believe ALL religions are based on truths from the time the religion is created. Some of those truths are later either confirmed or rebuked by science and/or history. If the religion is based on being a morally good person, then the fact that Jesus' birth is in September or Buddha didn't actually live 551 lives should be irrelevant.

Christians are retarded.

Meh, of course Christmas traditions incorporated pagan rituals of the time. I find it humorous some folks still get hung up on the exact date Christ was born (DUH, wasn't December) or how the holiday is popularly celebrated.
I mean, hell, I've changed the way I celebrate/traditions I observe several times over in my life, and I'm only 26. Think the holiday MIGHT have changed a bit over the eons it's been around? Come on, now
Y'all have a merry Christmas, however y'all choose to celebrate it. Christian or not, it's a special time of year in our culture, and even though I believe Christ is the "reason for the season," spending time with loved ones and taking stock of another year gone by are my favorite things to celebrate

My bad, I was responding to the general tone of the thread more than you specifically, but I failed to make that clear

Very well stated, Tbird. You are wise beyond your years.
Merry Christmas to you & Mrs. Tbird and the rest of your loved ones.

I am not very religious but I don't see what is wrong with combining pagan rituals. They seem to be all the cool and awesome parts of Christmas. Christmas would be a cruddy holiday if it wasn't

I don't so much care that christmas isn't jesus real birthday but I'm kinda interested to know the exact date he was born, I think most people would think that's pretty cool.
