Wait? Dell waived Grits and kept Jalen Jones?

Someone please explain the logic behind keeping a guy who sucked during summer league over a guy who can actually shoot and provide a spark off the bench.
Team needs guys who are aggressive and can shoot. Jones was a turnover machine during summer league and I saw nothing to indicate he'll develop into a G-League player, much less NBA.
I know nothing about Cooke other than that he's 23 and has never played in an NBA game.
Are they planning to bring Crawford back?
Why not at least keep him around to include in a trade down the road?
I get that his defense is below-average, but his offense compensates for it when he's on, and in his time with the Pels he's been on more often than not.
Offensively, a case could be made that he's been better than Holiday.
I really don't care what he did 5 years ago. This just seems like a typical dumb Pels front office move.
Fans liked him. Why alienate your already tenuous fanbase to save a few hundred thousand?

Wtf are you talking about? Jones is on a two way contract.

Jones and Cooke don't count towards the roster

Doesn't change the fact that he's absolute garbage.

Why not just go into the tax?
Doing so and winning likely makes a net profit compared to being under the tax and winning 37-40 games.

There is something called a repeater tax. You prolly need to read up on nba rules.
As the other poster said Jones is not part of our 15. There was no room for grits with the Nelson signing.

For all we know he'll be back tomorrow with the exception being available after 3 games have now been played.

I hope so. Right now he's a better offensive player than Jrue. Ud rather him on the floor being aggressive than Jrue looking like a deer in the headlights at the end of games.

It has nothing to do with the tax, you can only have 15 players on guaranteed contracts on your roster.

He’s a developmental player you dweeb. We are hoping he eventually can become a bench player.

There's no need for name calling. Let's keep this board civil.
I personally didn't see anything in the limited sample size that I got to witness that gave me any confidence Jones has skills to develop.
It just bothers the hell out of me that we have two centers making $17m who don't play that are on the roster, but we can't keep one of the very few bright spots from last season, Boogie trade notwithstanding.

Grits was a real asset, imo. Hate to see him go.

youre not getting it. teams can use 2-way contracts to sign players that can move from the G-league to your NBA when you need them. Kind of like a farm team in baseball. Except players on 2-way contracts do not count towards the 15 player roster limit.
Most players that sign 2-way contract are either undrafted, looking for a shot in the NBA, or need to develop. Vander Blue was the best overall player in the D-league last season and he just got released so most of those players don't pan out. But teams have these contracts as kind of like a long shot with the highest expectations to be a bench player. Crawford for example would never sign a 2-way because its beneath even him.

dont get me wrong I loved Grits. His confidence & spark off the bench is a unique and valued skill. But his deficiencies out-weigh his positive characteristics. Nelson in one game with no practice, helped the team in many different ways that Crawford never could have. I don't like that he's gone, but Nelson is a better player/fit for us.
