Where would Mizzou have gone if OU and Texas had left the Big 12?

If OU and Texas had left for the Pac 12 and taken OSU and Tech with them then what would of happened to the remaining 5 Big 12 teams. A&M was already on it's way to the SEC. More than likely Mizzou would have ended up in the SEC any way because of their TV market.

Another scenario that is highly likely is that the Big East (Louisville, Rutgers, Connecticut, Cincinnati, South Florida, & Temple) members that didn't bolt join forces with the remaining Big 12 (Mizzou, Baylor, KU, KSU,& ISU) teams to form the new AAC. That would have been a pretty good Basketball conference.

The 3rd and less likely scenario is that the remaining Big 12 five join the MWC.

What do you think Mizzou's fate would have been if the Big 12 imploded in 2011-2012?

assuming you mean after Nebraska and Colorado leave, and before TCU and WV join...But

At that point, I wouldn't have been surprised to see the Big 12 go after the same teams, plus ones they are targeting now. But then again, once one P5 goes to 16, I think the others will scramble to do the same...which would be this scenario.

I'm going to say that the B12 dissolves. I think the only way we go to the SEC is the scenario that actually happened.

I think the B1G would have aggressively gone after us and ku as a package 15th/16th combo, along with 13th/14th Rutgers/Maryland.

AAC would add KState, ISU, and Baylor, maybe TCU and WV too? Although, I could see the ACC cherry picking a few teams to get into Texas, maybe an SMU.

Missouri is/was a valuable piece in expansion. 2 Major markets. extended footprint for whichever conference picked us up. AAU, with decent to solid academics. So in order of likelihood IMO

1. B1G
2. AAC/B12 merger
3. SEC
4. MWC mergers

We would have still ended up in the SEC. Not sure why that would have changed.

Screw the B1G and their junior memberships. They would have figured they had Mizzou and kU under the gun and probably would have tried to screw us worse than they did the Nubs.

Screw a basketball conference. I love college basketball but football rules the day and no one would show up for any of those conference games. Oh, and we suck at basketball currently.

Any other mid-major option would have meant I'm following someone else. Just not interest in watching MWC, MVC or whatever else on a regular basis.

The only real (or at least best) option would have still been the SEC.

I guess I'm thinking of the 2010-2011 time frame.

We knew Nebraska and Colorado was on their way out the door.

Then there was the scare that Texas and OU was flirting with the Pac 12.

It was already well known that Texas A&M was pissed about the Longhorn Network and was in talks with the SEC.

Poor Mizzou, Baylor, KU, KSU, and ISU were saying, "what about us guys?"

Then Texas and OU said, "aw just messing around guys. We are family! The Big 12 is stronger than ever."

If you're talking the Nubs/Colorado time frame, I'm guessing we would have been screwed and been a junior member of the B1G. I don't know what other options. CUSA? MWC?

I heard there was rumblings about the Big East being interested in us, KU, and KSU for Basketball. I'm assuming the catholic schools still leave and it becomes the AAC.

Every thing worked out for the best. Just playing a little, "What If?".

A more interesting/dire scenario would have been if OU went to the SEC with A&M, and Texas took 3 other peons with them to either the Pac or ACC. Then Mizzou is fooked unless they can get in the B1G.

You beat me to the real question.

Under that circumstance even a junior in the B1G would have been better than conference wasteland.

The only other hope would have been if the SEC decided to make the big jump to 16 as well by adding us and an NC State out of a temporarily destabilized ACC, when Maryland bolted.

All things considered, going to the SEC was the right move at the right time to be bold.

If you're talking June 2010, when Nebraska announced to Big 10 and Texas taking A&M, OU, OSU, TT and CU (not Baylor) to PAC.

Here is what would have happened. A majority of Big 12 teams would have new destinations, meaning the next call to order would be to vote to dissolved the Big 12, meaning no exit fees. That would have left MU, kU, KSU, ISU and Baylor as orphans.

There was a CBSsports report that the Big East was ready to offer MU, kU, KSU and ISU as members.

I think that would have been temporary. Would also depend if A&M did go with the rest to the PAC. They quickly started talking to the SEC about going there instead.

If A&M went to PAC, I'd say we would have eventually gone to B10 and done the junior route. If A&M bolted for the SEC instead, (kU was rumored to be next to take the PAC slot), Mizzou goes with A&M to SEC. Leaving KSU and ISU to the Big East.

If you're talking the Wallflower comment in 2011, no question about it. We would have gone to SEC.

The rest of those left would have suffered. Not sure where they would have ended up.

Mizzou was never in any danger of being left out despite media posturing. In the age of conference networks and subscription fees, we are simply too valuable.

Looking back, I agree that no matter what happened, we were going to land on our feet.

But to be honest, I was shitting bricks at the time...especially because I was living in Oklahoma in 2011. I had nightmares of being one of the "Forgotten Five".

It's hard to say since a Big 12 break up would have totally changed the landscape. Lots of big moving parts if that happens, and anything could have.

I think we would have ended up in the Big 10 like the original plan because they would have taken more teams if the Big 12 broke up. Kind of think maybe we'd be seeing Nebraska get rocked in the SEC and us tearing up the Big Ten even more than we are the SEC.

No question.

Athletically we ended up in the best possible spot. If the Missouri Administration wanted the B1G as bad as some say they did, we would be there right now.

Pretty thankful the powers that be knew Mizzou's value more than the forum warrior chicken littles.
