I got curious if this teams third quarter struggles were just in my head. So I looked at the scoring output:

1st: 66 total / 8.25 per game
2nd: 80 total / 11.13 per game
3rd: 30 total / 3.75 per game
4th: 86 total / 10.75 per game

The biggest knock I can find on this team right now is the issues coming out of the locker room.

Drink needs to beg, plead, cajole, whatever it takes to get Saban to share his halftime speech with him.

Whatever Drink is telling the boys now isn't working.

It is called turtling. It is intentional.

Good research, and I agree it’s odd and a bit of a problem against top teams.

Even the home opener against SD, they came out flat in the 3rd quarter and allowed them to drive the field and eat up a ton of clock. Point being, it’s not only the offense sluggish at the start of the 2nd half.

Also looked up we are -13 net points in the third quarter.

Q1: +21
Q2: +59
Q3: -13
Q4: +18

Distribution suggests either turtling or teams adjusting to us in the 2H because we are absolutely dominant in 1H.

But we're pretty solid in the 4th so all is good.

Hell, having watched Arkansas lose 5 games by one score I'd cheerfully take a slow 3rd quarter start to win the game.

Because I'm superstitious I've been avoiding posting on the Mizzou board for fear this terrible curse Arkansas has this year might rub off on y'all. If you lose your next game I'll understand if y'all block my access.

How about this: we've been ahead at the half every game this year. So the other team is the one making the adjustments to our success. Then we spend the 3rd quarter figuring out their adjustments.

Reactionary on our part, but we're still getting used to actually being good?

I think this is it. It gets hard to mentally adjust to beating someone you used to struggle to beat or lose to, and now you seem capable of beating them by huge scores. Same thing with money--most people spend themselves down to previous financial levels when they come into money.

I also think that in this game in particular they just wanted to get out with as little trauma as possible prior to bye/Georgia. The defense was almost all 2nd stringers in the 2nd half, and the offense was the guys with the best hands.

IE "We got this, if we need more we can get it whenever we want" Which is what happened in the 4th.
