There's another nut shot coming.

The "big one".

Someone is gonna discover that the coaches did tamper with that witness.

Surely, the coaches weren't so dumb as to contact her via a university owned phone? Right?

I don't think this is over yet.

Do you sense a police investigation or University.
Wouldn't think there think they are that dumb.

Yeah, the university isn't who I would worry about. I'm more worried about the P-D requesting phone records.

They would love to break this story.

Matter is butthurt that he wasn't given the Sam story before it went national. There are more than a few scribes butthurt over the Sam chain of events.

They want their name in lights.

Was thinking the same thing after I saw he got kicked off the team.

Waiting for him or his dad to come out and say that DGB received improper benefits to commit to Mizzou or some shite like that.

It seems like Columbia police have a hard on for Mizzou, not sure why though.

Agreed. And despite Pinkel's denial yesterday, I believe they did call. (I mean, why should the women be believed about the violence of DGB and not this?)

Also the swiftness with which the dismal came after the Alden-Pinkel Friday meeting (when it initially looked like DGB would survive), reeks of preemptive damage control in a last ditch effort to head off the kind of external investigation you speak of.

My judgement may be clouded here because of Alden, who impresses me as a disingenuous, bootlicking spinmeister who would say or do almost anything to protect his position and the University that enriches him.

Unless the media fears retribution or is totally cowed, investigating that loose end seems like a slam dunk.

This ain't Tuscaloosa.

There will be some digging.

I hope for their sake, they didn't contact her with a device that can be easily tracked. If they used a university owned device they are screwed.

It's all about pay phones and burners for shite like this. Anyone who has ever watched The Wire knows that.

I really don't think Pinkel is dumb enough to contact her. I think the coaches told DGB he was in trouble and he communicated that to her. I could be wrong.

Much more gray area here. My first reaction is, the staff or AD SHOULD have contacted the girls, no? Wouldn't and shouldn't that be part of the investigation to determine what happened? Now, obviously, they shouldn't try to persuade them to not press charges but why would they do that just to turn around and still dismiss DGB? I could also see a situation where DGB, family and staff are all sitting down talking about the situation and trying to find out what happened. Being DGB's gf and having been there, I suppose I could see her sitting in on it, though I don't know if it's wise. She could have been "told" how serious it was by simply being part of a sit down where they were telling DGB how serious it is. Both of her texts would then kind of have a kernel of truth in them. Might be a stretch, dunno.

Anyways, am I wrong to think it is ok for the girls to be contacted as part of the investigation?

That's what I would put my money on. If I could. Is there betting board for this?

I guess I'm so used to the St. Louis media being so thoroughly cowed and bullied by the local coaches and organizations (see a baseball Cardinal post-game press conference), I assume things are similar everywhere these days.

They are 180 degrees out of phase when it comes to Mizzou vs. Cardinals coverage.

Cards are their bread and butter, they'd be foolish to go around digging for stories down at Busch.

Gotta go somewhere to get a juicy story. CoMo is only a couple hours down the road.

That being said, if a coach did do this, and it looks like a tampering case, it's going to be a bad deal. The P-D would be stupid not to jump all over it.

You may be right. Not knowing the details of a timeline, I assumed the girl sent the incriminating text before any official MU investigation contact took place.

why would columbia or campus PD have any interest in this? isn't the investigation closed? The only way there will be any further investigation is if the university wants it (and it seems like alden was pretty involved so I doubt he pursues anything). The only way this gets any worse is if the NCAA jumps in. Then we are screwed.

I see what you are getting at, but it really doesn't matter. They kicked him off. Even if they did call at this point who would really care?

If they had called and kept him on the team then that would have been an issue.

Not once did the P-D mention that Perralta hit .239 in '12, and has hit under .260 three out of the last five years.

The StL media is an arm of the PR department for the Cardinals.

Don't know if a nut kick is coming, but this story isn't finished. Whole series of events is too weird.
