OK guys (and gals), here's another question... Several have mentioned in the LT thread that the SEC has no look-in on their SEC-N deal and are locked in for 20 years.

True? Not true? Does it even matter? It's a shared revenue deal, correct? So if ESPN squeezes the cable companies for and extra nickel or quarter a month they just split it, right?

Wasn't the original deal: ESPN uses it's expertise to start the network, start-up costs are shared, and profits are shared for 20 years - then the SEC has the right to renew or take it's network elsewhere or privately?

I guess one final question would be, at the end of 20 years would the SEC have to buy out ESPN? Or would the SEC be the sole owner of the SEC-N, free and clear? Just curious.

The only way that happens is if the B1G strikes first. Which if that happens, puts the SEC behind the ball.

From a purely conference perspective, the first conference to make-a-move...is the winner. Timing is everything. This will be swift and interesting.

Nobody knows except those with a copy of the contract, and they aren't saying. There was some kind of clause with CBS when they added Mizzou and A&M that let them get a minor game in the same window as the main CBS window. There may be some kind of similar clause now.

But, everything is negotiable. If the SEC snagged a couple big brand schools, I'm guessing the old contracts would be ripped up and re-done.

As for buying into the SEC Network, I have heard its up to the SEC--they can buy up to half of it if they want. Haven't heard anything about whether they will or not.

I think Rocket had a good response. I'm not sure how anyone over there knows any level of detail. Only thing I will add is that two companies will not sign a contract that locks anything in for 20 years. They will both protect themselves with loopholes and out clauses in the case of a major shift of any type.

Yup. Considering the B1G has their TV contract coming up...I'd be interested to see if they don't try and lure a couple teams for 2017. They are in the pole position in terms of making a first move.

SEC might make a first move, or perhaps the PAC.

I think it is telling that most of the Big12 is saying NO to expanding. They smell the end, and will ride out this wave until they disband.
