You people who think Steck isn't any good are nuts. At the top level of college football, having a shyte-ton of great athletes everywhere is who we're competing against and comparing ourselves to. Granted we identify undeveloped talent as well as anybody, but we still have holes/depth issues every year. It has little to do with coaching and everything to do with recruiting.
While I respectfully acknowledge your point on the problems at LB, Steckel getting his arse handed to him playing a three man line for 90% of the Auburn game is inexcusable. And then to duck out and never talk about it with media at any point afterward. Some Marine.
I can't remember the last time I've seen a player so thoroughly exhausted from success as Tre Mason was. Maybe Kellen Winslow for San Diego in the playoffs against Miami.
The sad part is our offense held up their part of the bargain, even with James Franklin still not back at 100%. The game was eminently winnable if only the defense had achieved even modest success blunting their offense. Yet Steckel never forced Auburn to adjust and make Nick Marshall win the game - and he may have, but why not at least try? Frustrating as hell.
Hopefully there's a Josh Henson underling on staff with fresh ideas to replace Steck when that time comes, too.

We tried some different formations at various points in the game. It seemed to me that he left what worked for whatever reason.

That three man front was quite strange. I guess the idea was give the LB's help but instead it let the RB's clear the line easily with a good head of steam. We had more success with four and slowing them down before they got to the middle, but after proving that was working better he went right back to what wasn't working. It reminded of Yost who would run that shitty sweep or screen no matter who often it didn't work

Every time theres a 3rd or 4th and long I just call it 3rd and Steckel. South Carolina game? That was a 4th and Steckel.

Wait, Pinkel isn't to blame for all our problems?
By October I fully expect the people blaming Steckel will have shifted to blaming Henson.
Missouri had the least points allowed in the SEC East and second in the entire SEC only to Alabama in SEC games. Obviously the DC is an idiot.

If we as a fanbase didn't complain Henson never gets promoted and we are still suffering with surfer boy. Go do some homework.

Yeah it showed the mettle of a DC to shut down, UT, UK and Vandy. If you cannot see the holes in our defensive schemes over the years then no X & O's will convince you. I did enough of that last year after Auburn to last me a year. We have talent and good talent at the most important position on the Defense, the DLine and we have never and will never be elite under Steck.

Golden article
I think this kid is gonna surprise some people (outside of Mizzou). Most Mizzou fans are familiar with him and Ray, but I think most outside of Mizzou look at it as Mizzou lost Ealy and Sam, they're going to be weak on the ends. Can't wait to see how these guys show out.
