Just looking at numbers.

462 total yards. We gave up 494 but like it or not, WVU has a pretty prolific offense. As far as total yards go, nearly keeping up with a WVU offense is not a bad thing.

Turnovers. We gave up 1 and took away 3. Won the turnover battle. Now, our 1 was a pretty significant one, but we did win the turnover battle.

1st downs: We actually had more 1st downs than WVU. I don't know if we had 26 1st downs all of last year. We got that many in one game this weekend.

280 yards passing. No, not efficient in getting to that number but it beats the heck out of the 100 yards passing we'd see last year.

All the other threads certainly make it clear that there is still a lot of work to be done, but there are some improvements or some things to build off IMO.

I'm really not that down. The defense didn't play great, of course, but 26 points to WVU is not horrible. Most of the issues here were also self inflicted. On the first touchdown Gibson had a very bad PI, and on the next play they score. That's was also third down and they would have punted. The second TD was also added by a PI although that was really just a bad call. Some missed tackles, a few missed assignments in coverage. In theory this is all correctable.

The offense was encouraging. Now where we need to be, but I thought the OL played well. Lock looks much improved. Again, a lot of self inflicted stuff. Mostly WR drops. Costly fumble by Crockett. Again, this is correctable.

Our kicker worries the hell out me though.

Who knows if we can correct those things, but if we do we could have a solid team. I'm not too upset about it.

Offense was better, but not anywhere close to passable. Special teams get an F and Defense regressed badly. So any small strides by the offense were easy overshadowed by what the other 2 pieces of the game gave.

That said, VERY pleased with Lock's performance. Stood in the pocket and delivered some DIMES. Taken some big steps forward in pocket awareness.

Zanders was fine...but Lock should be the guy 95% of the time...and especially when he gets in a groove. The subs mid-drive killed each QB's flow.

RB's were okay. Of course, they can't fumble in scoring territory. But they did decent blocking while playing from behind.

WR were horrid...picking up right where they left off. So many drops, especially on perfect passes. Chris Black needs to be on the field at all times. He is the only receiver I would give a passing grade.

TE pass game needs to continue to grow. Culkin is our best pass catcher, period. If he has to line up as a WR, so bet it. Made some really tough catches in critical spots.

Line wasn't good, but better than last year. Couldn't run block...but pass pro was decent. Gave Drew just enough time to find guys...but not much more. Can't let him get lit up like they did multiple times. But for what we saw last year...I'll take the improvement from a completely new line.

I think that cost y'all big early in the game when Lock first got going and then was yanked.

When I saw Zanders go in at that point, thought I like him and like seeing him get playing time, I was yelling at the TV. Changing then was a momentum and drive killer. I was dumb-founded.

yeah it did not make sense to pull him when they got some momentum going.

Many teams had problems this week playing cupcakes so cheer up.

Tennessee needed a missed extra point and 2 missed field goals by Appalachian State to to get a 20-14 win.Dobbs might have broke his ribs winning that game on the last play.

Florida was leading U Mass 10-7 early in the 4th quarter before they won 24-7.

Arkansas beat Louisiana Tech 21-20.

You could go 1 step further.
Mizzou and WVU both had 6 possessions inside the opponents 30. WVU scored points on all 6 drives.
If Mizzou learns to finish drives, the offense might be ok.

Stop throwing the J'mon Moore and the passing game gets much more efficient instantly.
