Semo - You think Abbington will play this year?

If he's as good as advertised, and as good as the SC coaches seemed to think, he could very well play. They'll let him compete, and he'd be by far the biggest back we would have. I'd say maybe a 75% chance he plays? Maybe a little less?

I'm really intrigued by this apparent grading system that USCe uses, I think stuff like that is usually bogus, but apparently they had Chase ranked very high, almost as high as Lattimore, and much higher than Elliot.

Abbington seems like someone you can't bring into a program that only won 5 games and not play him, but how does he fit in with all this talent we have?? Would be tough to be the one to have to make these calls.

Will make for an interesting spring... this and the qb battles.

LSU also graded out Abbington VERY high. They made a very strong push on Abbington while he was down that way for the USA football (or maybe some HS AA game). He said thanks but no thanks.

Personally, I have little doubt that he has the talent. I suppose at this point, GP's judgment is just in question with me. It's been used over and over again, but Josey wouldn't have seen the field if it weren't for injuries. So the whole argument of they'll compete on the field and the better player will play flies out the window with me if the whole decision making process of who is better is called into question.

as if you needed more confirmation, did you notice where Jimmy Hunt was on the latest depth chart? The kid averages a TD 1 out of every 5 touches. Ridiculous.

I'm not saying he deserves to be any higher on the depth chart, but every year I keep waiting for Demien to move up from 3rd on the depth chart.

Also, why isn't DGB ahead of Lucas who can't catch a ball? Because he's hurt?

Part of me wishes they wouldn't have listed the QB's on the depth chart. Send a real message that it's an open competition. Naming Franklin #1 on the depth chart just sends the wrong message IMO, as does listing Laurent (who?) and Demczak (who?) ahead of Printz and Hosick.

I know it's just the first depth chart before spring practice and things will change but just things that jumped out at me.

I saw somewhere that in the first practice Franklin, Berk, and Mauk each took an equal amount of reps with first, second, and third teams. Sounds like it is a true competition. Im not holding my breath though. Most of you have better memories than me but I cant remember when a starter from the previous year came back and lost his job. Pinkel doesnt like to admit he was (is) wrong. "What he does works" Hopefully I am not wrong and the best man regardless of who it may be comes out on top. I personally like Franklins skill set. I just dont want him to win the job for the sake of Pinkel wanting to prove that he is right.

It sucks that we wont have any practice reports, but I guess if thats what is needed to get the W's I will take that sacrifice.

Would that have been Kirk Farmer? Replaced by Brad Smith?

If so that would have been right around the time I started paying attention to Mizzou. Again I am not against Franklin winning the job as long as he does just that, win it. I dont want Pinkel to just hand it to him.

There is a difference with ths Farmer comparison as that wasnt his recruit. I think Gary has lost faith/satisfaction with Franklin though so maybe he doesn't consider him his guy either

That's a good point about Farmer not being his recruit. The main comparison I see between Farmer and Franklin are the durability issues.

At the very least, Pinkel has made it a point to remind reporters multiple times about Smith overtaking Farmer's job. He could just be posturing, but hopefully it's a sign that the race really is wide open.

That the race really is wide open AND that the staff can accurately judge who is winning that race.
