QB/OL/TE/LB/DB - Will all be the same or better than last year.

RB
Hansbrough.............Hansbrough
Murphy....................Witter
Witter......................Abbington

This one will all come down to whether or not Abbington is the real deal. If he is...this group could be as good or better than last year's group due to a years development/growth for Hansbrough and Witter. No question we lost depth though.

WR
Sasser...................Moore
Hunt......................Brown
White.....................Leftwich
Moore....................Blair
Brown....................DiLosa
Leftwich.................Richard

I know there is supposed to be some talent in there, but there is just no way that the 2015 receiving corp is as good as the 2016. Maybe by the time they are seniors, they'll be as good as Sasser and Hunt, but I just don't see it next year.

DE
Ray.....................Harris
Golden..................Frazier
Harris.................McWilliams
Loud....................Williams

Without a doubt, the biggest drop off of any spot on the field compared to last years team. And I'm a Harris fan. I just think he's a year away. Frazier has to be a beast for us to be solid here. Again, pretty thin if we have any more injuries.

DT
Brantley...............Augusta
Hoch................Beckner
Augusta...............Hatley
Vincent...............Logan

BTW - Those 4 for this year are THE ONLY scholarship DT's we have besides the other incoming freshmen. They all may very well play as true freshmen. We can afford ZERO more injuries at this spot.

So 1 DT is the difference from a 3-peat to 4th place?

More of a cumulative effect. I can reasonably expect us to answer a few questions on the team and still thrive, but we are at the point now where I just cant see us coming up with answers for everything.

Hope Im wrong of course.

The reports coming out after spring ball had Brady being behind Loud/Harris and above the other RS freshmen.

I would think we'll probably offer the juco DT Houston now, if he's eligible this year. If he's any good at all he can at least provide depth.

Just furthers my idea of Eric Beisel to DE.

I think you'll see Beisel on the field, but it will be Odom showing us a 3-4 Defense. Beisel could end up lining up at a stand up DE slot.

Logan and Hatley will have to take their turn on the DL. Marcus Golden has talked very highly of Logan. Now is the time to see if Mr. Golden was correct.

It hurts but Mizzou is still my pick for the East. Yes, losing him will sting, but Mizzou has a history of moving the right person to the right spot. Another injury to your D-Line and things start to get a bit dicey.

Remember, hold serve against the Vols, wait for Georgia to burst into flames... and viola... East champs for a third year in a row.

The real test is going to be on the DB's for sure. I just don't see much of a pash rush with the guys we're talking about. Maybe in a year or two but not this coming up year.

That's how I see it as well.Looking like a 7-8 win team right now.

Any word on the severity of the ligament damage in the knee?

Knee will be operated on in 3-4 weeks.

I wonder if it's minor damage, or a torn MCL or ACL.

Knowing that would give more clarity to his return.

-----

This is a huge deal for a team that was already thin on the D-Line. Anyone that downplays that is being overly optimistic.

Being D-LineU doesn't mean anything right now, some of the people that will make the rotation are not good enough to be on the field.

(I hope Loud feels like a real turd right now. Kid bitched and complained about playing time. Look at what he could have been handed).

---------

Worst case scenario for Mizzou -- Brantley returns 1/2 or 3/4's into the season, tears it up, does great, is a big story, then leaves for the draft.

With the depth we've had on the line the past couple years, and this injury, we're really missing out on a really great athlete.

-------

That said, glad he's alive and capable of a full recovery.

The X factor in all of this is Odom. I followed what he did at Memphis, and I think he will end up being a great DC. The back 7 should be really good & we still have Kool.

Yep. Odom is going to earn his pay in Year One.

IF-IF-IF they can hold firm @ DT, I suspect Odom will find a way to generate pressure by whatever means necessary.

Huge Odom fan here.

Guy exudes legitimacy.

At the time I was upset we lost Steck, but the truth is he was a simpleton when it comes to the profession of coordinator.

He's a motivator, not a schemer.

Mizzou is sitting pretty right now, we have the perfect HC, OC, and DC set up.

I agree with this. I like our coaching situation a lot.

Losing Brantley hurts, no doubt. But I think Odom will figure out a way to compensate for his loss and still cause some havoc with the personnel we have. And the back 7 is perhaps the strongest it's been in Pinke's tenure. Maybe. We sure can't afford more DL injuries though.

I'm still more concerned about a lack of WR threats.

The problems won't come with the guys who will get a majority of the snaps. The problems are the guys behind them. More injuries and it's real trouble. Walk on or true freshman type of trouble.

I agree, but if we were going to lose someone as big as Brantley at least it happened early. Now we can prepare this guy's knowing that we need then to contribute early and often. We are solid at DB and our LB tackle very well. We might not get sacks from the pass rush but from the coverage this year.

Having or NOT having HB isn't the make or break to our season. AT WORST we'll see more base 3-4 looks.

Bookmark this....3 peat and HB makes it back to play in Atlanta.

I hope this forces Beisel to DE. I just have a feeling his athleticism would flourish there.

Don't see how loosing a DT will have an impact of moving a backup LB to DE.

Someone on the end moves inside on the 4-3 packages, and leave another DE spot open...

Sorry, I should have explained my thinking...Hatley plays both DT and DE. I was thinking he stays primarily at DT now, Beisel has good size, strength and could get a look at DE. He has some game experience as the backup MLB and Special Teams. Just a thought, I'm sure Odom has it figured out.

Hatley ended spring listed as a starter at DT alongside HB.

Really doubt this changes Biesel's position.

May change how Odom uses LBs I. Order to put pressure on the offense.

Can't imagine coaches use the fall in a position change. Kind of wastes the whole spring & summer prep/development for the player.
