Offense sucks and is an embarrassment. Defense is great. Did you know Missouri has scored less than 14 points in 3 of their last 4 games? #FireHenson

At least Lock is getting experience.

Play calling tonight was terrible. Why did we throw the ball 37 times with a true freshman in a close game? Hansbrough averaged almost 10 yards a carry.

Check this stat...
Hansbrough - 9 rushes for 74 yards
Wither - 11 rushes for 39 yards
Yet, we keep going to Witter. Not Abbs, not Hunt, etc.

I just wish Hansbrough was healthy and could carry the ball 25 times a game, maybe we would have an offense.

Abbington - 1 carry - 12 yds
Last game
Abbington - 1 carry - 9 yds (I think)
Game before
Abbington - 1 carry - 7 yds.
It's fricking ridiculous.

I have a hunch that Abbington is in the coaches doghouse because of how he came into camp. A lesson is being taught - until he gets with the program and practices the way they want him to, he won't see the playing time he deserves. Love it or hate it, Pinkel is a program guy - he rewards hard work, not just results. Abbington came in and appeared lazy, out of shape, and nonchalant - those guys don't get playing time for Pinkel, no matter how talented they may be, until he sees the effort he wants to see.
Just a hunch. But when you are trying to manage that many players, and their egos, and all that testosterone, and foster a sense of team - you reward the disciplined, hard-working team players. Otherwise you'd have bad attitudes and locker room divisions.
This is the only thing that makes sense to me. Otherwise, why the frick aren't they playing him???

The same reason they didn't play Lock as starter at the beginning of the year.

It takes Witter 18 carries to get to 12 yards. I don't care how in shape he was when camp started, he's not an SEC RB.

I think the Lock thing had another component though - the experience factor. No matter how good he may look in practice, generally starting a freshman QB is a bad sign for a team. The reality of competition is going to smack them in the face, like Lock got tonight. Freshman are going to make freshman mistakes. When you have an experienced option with a winning record, it seems less risky. That one made a lot more sense to me.

Yeah, I guess. But to me, Mauk was the weak hitting 2nd baseman on a team with great pitching and defense. And he hits .250 but has a couple clutch hits. He's never really been all that responsible for the wins. And the stats back that up, IMO. But I get it.
I just think it's indicative of how the staff approaches playing time. Esp on offense for some reason.

And the fact Abbington can come into the year the way he did and still show his potential with the few game opportunities he gets says a lot about how much talent he has. It is undeniable, he has the skills and build to be that SEC back we see many nationally eye. I just don't want to have to wait until certain players graduate until they let him out of the doghouse or worst, discontent builds-up and he decides to transfer.

I see QB as the most complex position when it comes to playing time. They are the leader of the offense, they call the shots on the field. Thinking about putting a true freshman in that position when you have an experienced leader with a winning record to back him up? I see why the freshman would be 2nd choice. I do agree, though, that Mauk wasn't responsible for most of those wins.
Hopefully Abbington will work hard and prove himself to the coaches so he can make the impact we all believe he can. It's frustrating to see his potential in such limited fashion when we have such a desperate need for a running game.

Defense has carried Mizzou for a while now. I'd like to see Pinkel go very un-Pinkel and "nuclear" ALL the offensive coaches arses. A MAJOR blood letting. Fire 'em all on that side of the ball. Maybe keep Andy Hill around, but not as QB coach.
Then hire the absolute best O coaching talent in the US that he can obtain. What ever it takes. Big splash, big hires. This alone should also help recruiting and straighten out the putrid O. It shows the world he is dead serious. He finishes his career strong.
