RMN: Hey Guys, Stop Picking on Brady Cook ...

Are Mizzou fans being unfair to Brady Cook?
Some excerpts so you don't have to give this trash ad revenue (unless you want to read more synchophantic clap trap):
All the bolded arguments I've made for why his only D1 offer beyond ODumb was Austin Peay ...
Great. We get a lesser Cam Newton with greater accuracy issues and 1/4 the arm ... sounds like a winning strategy.
And there is why Mizzou fans can never have nice things ... the expectations ceiling is always set so that the current HC/QB/whoever just has to fall over to reach the ceiling of Mizzou football ...
I know there is another thread about how well Mizzou football will do this year. Here's another take:
Cook as QB1: 5-7 (labrum surgery can't fix decision making)
Horn as QB1: 9-3 (has wheels as good if not better than Cook which were shown in his winning the GA 7A championship in 2021, but has a cannon for an arm and solid accuracy in the one series we saw in 2022 ... but has he matured enough to lead the team?)
Garcia/Johnson as QB1: No idea. Probably somewhere inbetween above or who knows, maybe better.
Bottom line: If Cook is the starting QB after first couple of games ... IMHO, prepare for a long season ...

Brady Cook is a decent SEC starter. He’s not a gunslinger, but his ability as a runner makes him dangerous enough to open things up in the intermediate passing game, which should be enough to let Mizzou’s talented receivers shine. But Cook has never shown the ability to execute in the close games that seem to be a hallmark of Eli Drinkwitz’s time at Mizzou. He makes exceedingly poor decisions; he can’t make something out of nothing; all the rote sayings about elite QBs.

As a runner he’s up there with some of the best mobile quarterbacks in recent SEC history. Let’s reserve full judgement until we see a second year of Cook with both shoulders intact (and a play caller that’s willing to let him use his wheels, ahem).
Great. We get a lesser Cam Newton with greater accuracy issues and 1/4 the arm ... sounds like a winning strategy.

I get it. As an SEC football fan, you’d ideally want your starting quarterback to be the main reason your team is competing for a National Championship berth, which I’m not sure Brady Cook is.

Its a shame that Horn didn't get more series last year. Pinkle knew what he was doing with QBs. So far, Drink hasn't impressed in that area. But, I'm not sure that the new OC doesn't have some sway/say in who the QB1 is going to be, and that has to come from what they see in practice and the 1st/2nd game.
But, I would greatly appreciate a QB with higher ceiling and winning pedigree (Horn) get the nod. I just think Cook (even when healthy) doesn't give us the best option.

Or that Drink hasn't turned over the OC reins to Moore ...
I also think Drink hedged a bit that Horn was going baseball instead of football with his FB sitting at 94+ and MLB draft rumors.
While Cook is a tough kid and probably nice as can be, he definitely shouldn't have been on the field with a torn labrum last season which is all on Drink.

My thoughts exactly! Drink knows his job is on the line. He will play the best we have at the moment.
But the question becomes, could Horn have been the best we have if developed properly? It was ridiculous not to get him more snaps last year.

Pinkel wouldn't have done anything different last year. Pinkel would only give the backup QB planned snaps when they were the de facto starter the following season.
People seem to forget how Gabbert was rolled out every week despite terrible injuries because he was coming back the next year.

Drink seems to love Brady Cook. Hopefully Kirby Moore will have a big say in this decision as well, because I am still pro-Drink but I do not trust his judgment on QBs after what we saw last season

See Kstate and Georgia game...Kstate he was a deer in headlights Pinkel never had a QB with those eyes...Georgia, Mizzou gets to the 1 and settles for a field goal they score a TD they win...and his 3rd down stats are atrocious ...
