Can't say I'm all that jazzed up about this hire, but we'll see.

None of the national or local to Mizzou guys are reporting this.
He had 4 top 25 offenses at OU. Should be a good hire.
Although the sooner Rivals guy says that he is not known as a recruiter other than for QBs.

I think he'll be fine. Natty champ QB at Oklahoma, Heisman r/u, several years as guiding top offenses at OU...fired as a sacrificial lamb.

JQ, here's my case for Heupel;
1. Did you see Lock's face at the beginning of the season compared to the end. He needs real help, or we run the risk of wasting an incredible talent. Heupel can do that, in fact it's the best thing he does.
2. He was fired to settle down the Stoops naysayers. OU fans are spoiled, and were calling for Stoops job ala UGA fan. Firing Heupel, bought Stoops time.
3. Heupel learned recruiting at OU. They recruit 5 stars as hard as 3 stars. They expect recruiting success. Mizzou has had a WDWWD attitude toward recruiting. Basically playing it safe with 2 and 3 stars and developing. We could benefit from an outside philosophy. Especially if were keeping Ford, and Hill who miss a lot of local 4 and 5 star talent.
4. His offense will be aggressive, using our talent to attack defenses. For the past 3 years, we haven't had an identity on offense.

I would say that 2013 definitely had an identity and lots of talent on offense. The last 2 years have been major struggles. Huepel has proven to be more flexible and willing to go with what works.

In his 4 seasons as OC at Oklahoma, they averaged 38 ppg. His final season, they only had 2 games under 30 points. We only had 1 game reaching 30 points this season.
Coached a Heisman winner. In his 8 seasons, he produced Sam Bradford, Landry Jones (in the NFL), Trevor Knight's good year, Blake Bell is also in the NFL (as a TE).
I wasn't a fan at first...other than a few duds, they put lots of points on the board. Just no defense.

The guy put 40+ up on Bama, that's enough for me to know.
2014 OU's team lost multiple games even though they scored 30+ points. I don't think offense was the problem there.

I love your reasoning, but agree with wubilli on his minor disagreement. We had an identity on offense in 2013 and a much paler version in 2014 - running the ball. Between Josey, Murphy and Russ they took games over in the 4th quarter.

I guess we can keep an eye open to see if their criticisms of him at OU reoccur here.

Someone that can "only recruit QB's" is someone that about 90% of the SEC wishes they had as this league has stunk at QB compared to the B12.

That's hard to read, but basically they dropped from 56th to 91st in total O while returning 10 starters. I'd maybe look at that differently were he an ace recruiter but that doesn't seem to be the consensus on him either.
Hope he does well, but I'm not seeing much to get excited about.

Not sure what people are expecting, with a rookie HC at the helm.
I surely didn't expect a line of tier 1 candidates knocking down the door.

I was expecting a large budget for an OC and also expecting to make a really good hire.
I wasn't expecting a "meh" hire or a "maybe it will work" hire.
I was expecting a "damn! Look at what this guy did at school X!"
Underwhelming I guess is the best way to describe it.

I expected The large budget for a HC.... When that didn't materialize.... I didn't really see them going huge cash for assistants.

Although they went down in total offense USU went up quite a bit in efficiency. Also felt with several injuries including to the starting QB.
Hard to judge OU without him because Mayfield is way better than anything they had the prior 2 years.
