quote:

“If you look at it, the scoreboard doesn’t show (the defense) gave up 19 points,” Missouri linebacker Michael Scherer said. “That’s pretty good. We’ve got to figure out how we can do more, how we can set up the offense to have more success, maybe better field position. The yardage didn’t look good, but when you’re on defense it’s about the outcome and we gave up 19 points.”

quote:

“I’m not going to throw anyone under the bus or say anything,” Lock said. “I’ve got to take care of the ball.”

Is this team ready to come apart at the seams?

As a side note, we have now lost 9 straight SEC games.

3 and outs must be frustrating to watch on the sidelines, but the defense has problems too.

When simply generating a 1st down is an achievement for two years running, it could happen.

I do think the defense played better before they ran out of gas, but there's no silver linings at this point.

Who the hell would Lock throw under the bus??? Let me reocmmend a quote, "I've got to get this lost puppy dog look off my face and nut up, I have talented WR's and I've got to get them the ball. I also have to talk to coach and have Crockett start at RB."

That was a weird quote. Of course JMon shite all over the field yesterday, but aside from that Lock was just flat out awful with not much pressure to speak of.

Not sure who he's be throwing under the bus besides his coach maybe.

But yeah, to the OP...the team is fractured. Not sure it's an offense vs defense thing but they know they suck. I fully expect them to mail it in the rest of the year.

Well lets see...why would there be problems on the team?

1. The defense from last year which everyone agrees was damn good was dismantled for no sane reason, and now looks like shite.

2. The OL heard how they would be a liability, and the young guys have kicked azz, yet it's always 3 and out.

3. RB's are being coached by someone with no experience.

4. The DB's suck, but their coach with all the experience and results is coaching the RB's for some strange reason.

5. The DL misses Kul because the guy was a stone cold mercenary when it came to teaching technique.

Anybody want to add anything?

6. 90% of the starters are GP's boys.

7. HCBO's OJT.

What's scary is that I thought Mason out coached Smart in the Vandy-UGA game. And Odom got outcoached by Smart.

I don't see any way to avoid saying we have probably the worst coach in the SEC. He can get better. But right now, I'd say he's the worst.

It's a neck and neck race with Stoops. But that's what you get with DC's and their first HC job. BO, Smart, Stoops, Mason, Muschump (even though he's on his second job). NEVER hire a DC for his first job!

8. The LB's are asking "WTF, why can't we just run and hit people, like Spoon, Gooden and Brothers?" "Oh yeah, it's because our DL isn't scary like it used to be."

9. 2 people on the DL have 1st round draft potential, and thats being f*cked with by this new scheme.

10. Crockett went 14 for 145 and still won't start next week.

And yet Witter saw more snaps. That's gotta change.

We upgraded our DB coach...

I think we have a great X&O staff and I think overall football knowledge has trickled down to the players and has improved across the team. Alec Abeln's recent comments on their strategy and approach further validates this for me. This is something I believe we were missing the last 2-3 years.

We are starting to realize more and more this is a Jimmy and Joe's league combined with great situational coaching awareness. Until we improve across the board in those areas, we will see struggles.

For those who bring up 2013 as a benchmark. I look at it as fools gold in the we can compete with anyone in this conference department. We had 4/5 star talent at impact positions (stars matter), but we also had great breaks in scheduling which inflated our view of the program. We lost both of our top 5 matchups, and It can be argued both were due to coaching and facing more talented teams.

I am optimistic, BO will lead us to sustained success.

At least I really really hope so.

Ive been on Ford's azz about his recruiting in St. Louis, but the guy got it done coaching dbs. His guys covered and were sure tacklers in space. I dont see an upgrade.
