I can't see him being here longer than two years.

Looks like a head coach. Somebody is going to want him next year. Hopefully he stays and sees Lock through to the draft.

I hope we keep him another year. Seriously. This is a pretty amazing turnaround. Remains to be seen how it holds up to better competition though.

Does anyone know who Heupel's understudy is on the coaching staff to promote from within?

Carts-Samuels is the grad assistant that was a QB in college. Wouldn't promote from within.

Joe Jon Finley is responsible for bringing in a lot of the schemes we run now.

I think they like that Joe Jon Finley guy.

Came from Baylor.

I don't know if he'd be ready by next year. Maybe two years. I have no idea.

Curious as to why. I would think it's much easier to continue with the same schemes and terminology of a highly successful offense than to change. Not to mention the continuity of type of players you've recruited to the system.

Defensive-side HCs need to have a contingency plan of potential replacement OCs at all times.

I'm seriously impressed that Odom wasn't afraid to install an offense that could tax or expose his defense. Most DCs are conservative by nature so won't. The great ones though are willing to turn the offense over to other creative minds and push the envelope.

I think we have a winner.

Rather go out and bring in a proven OC. GP twice promoted OCs from with. Both had never been an OC before, both struggled.

Ellarbe has been a Co-OC at Houston, but wasn't the play caller.

I've liked Finley since the first time I heard him interviewed. Some guys just have a presence. He does.

Call on the field is Premature Speculation. 5 game penalty, repeat conversation.

Heupal needs 3-4 years to erase the OU firing. That's why he landed at Utah State. He needs time to prove his new Air Raid system. In 4 years he takes the Nebraska or Auburn job.

I would hope 2-3 more years at the least.

But most people in the loop feel he was a sacrificial lamb.

He had good success there.

It's a bit premature to be worried about Heupel leaving. Nice improvement in yardage, but it's come againt some terrible teams. And because of Lock's talent.

It would seem to make sense one more year. 1 more year of Lock and Heupel together then they both leave.

Agreed. Don't know why this conversation is happening here.

It's not premature.

He was successful at OU until he was sacrificed. He was thought of as one of the next big head coaching prospects.

This is just quite honestly the most absurd sentence I've ever read on any Mizzou forum. For real. You win the prize.

No point in ripping into you.

We'll be lucky to have Heupel for two seasons.

Ahh. Yes.

We're drawing a line between those who can see and those who can't.

I love it.
