I'm completely happy with this outcome. I hope coach Kul gets a big raise, too.

Anyone upset by this?

Only thing ive seen remotely close is,

Per @GabeDeArmond on @TMASTL , former MU LB and current Memphis Defensive Co-ordinator Barry Odom is the favorite to replace Dave Steckel.

Not from the AD but from a good source. Obviously anything can happen between now and an official announcement. People can get last second cold feet but I don't see Barry doing that.

Did FL back off knowing he was Mizzou bound?

Per @BruceFeldmanCFB, Florida hiring Miss St DC Geoff Collins. Gators were interested in Memphis DC & potential Mizzou target Barry Odom

Frank Cusumano just opened his radio show saying Odom looks like the guy.

He interviewed Pinkel today. The interview is HERE.

I'd have to re-listen, but I'm pretty sure he said Mizzou is now Top 5 in CFB wins over the last 8 years.

I know we all like Kul, but what if in some crazy way MU lost kul, got less notoriety for the DL but then won the SEC? Would that be acceptable?

promotion to Associate HC? or Co-coordinators Odom-Kul?

there might be a way to make this work.

we already push "Crazy" way beyond normal boundaries just getting to ATL,,, don't think we really want to push it further.

+1+1. His track record of elite success speaks for itself.

Only hire Odom if Kul signs off on it.

If this is true and comes to pass, it tells me that at this stage of his career at MU, he wants someone more proven over an unproven with potential. Seems to me he may be looking at the 'end game' of his coaching career here at MU.

Gotta keep coach Kul happy. Really surprised GP didn't promote from within (if the Odom hire happens), although in a way he would be doing that, since Odom is obviously a part of the MU family.

Odom coached under Pinkel for several years. This hire makes everyone happy (unless Kul wanted the job). He is a Pinkel guy AND he is an outside guy with experience and a proven hire. He also has ties in the memphis area which should be good.

I live in Memphis and a couple of months ago on a local sports radio show a retired High School coach was giving his local high school picks. He was asked about how Memphis University was turning the program around and what he thought of it. He said MU was doing a great job with the talent that they are allowed to talk to.

When asked what he meant by that he said the HS coaches in the Mid South area are like Pimps. His words. They let there better players talk to the better teams coaches. MU has not been allowed to talk to the premier players in this area because the HS coaches have not allowed them to talk.

I heard MU ex head coach Tommy West say the same thing a year after he was fired from MU. If this is true I hope the Mid South HS coaches let Odom and company talk to the premier players since Missouri is in the SEC.

From the TB...

quote:

From Gabe's Mailbag...on Coordinator Position

lamongo asks: Who's your best guess for defensive coordinator and when would you expect an announcement?

GD: Barry Odom and by next Monday at the latest.
