I didn't even think a couple weeks ago I'd have these thoughts/questions, but what is the new AD going to think of the Gates situation?

I'm 99% sure Gates gets another year no matter what but the more I look into this season, the more ridiculous and terrible it is. I dont see any universe where a coach goes winless and then goes on to be highly successful. It just doesn't happen.

Also, having run into "firing for cause" situation in my work world, I have learned a few things. Poor performance to the point of being inept or incompetent absolutely can be a "cause" for firing. It depends on the state but essentially many areas consider it a type of breach of contract if you are contracted to do a job but it turns out you cant do it. I'm not sure if it is considered some type of fraud, misleading agreement or what.

What are the odds a new AD starts investigating every avenue to get rid of Gates? I know Gates has a good recruiting class coming but that loss to Princeton last year and this season are some massive red flags.

I think you may be jumping the gun but there will be a meeting saying the current record is not acceptable and he's responsible for fixing it.

That sounds like a waste of time and energy.

It’s not. It’s good supervisory behavior. Clearly delineate expectations.

The Mailed Fist in a Velvet Glove is a highly useful management tool.

Im still convinced one of the big reasons DRF left was to avoid dealing with the backlash on Gates contract

That sure appears to be a big red flag. That and direct awarding contracts to her husband's company. That is a no-no in the public sector.

Also, the $15MM+ surplus that just disappeared.

What a rookie and unsophisticated move on her part. Daktronics is mostly the only game in town for big time athletic programs. There was no need to do this (if this is true, I’ve only heard rumors to this point).

Daktronics was a hell of a stock to buy around 2020.

I wonder if there was outright misrepresentation from the AD to the system on this. It doesn’t seem possible knowing what we know.

Not sure. Something sure doesn't seem right about it all. I would assume after her first year when the AD had the $15MM surplus, that would not have included any loans (but maybe it did?). Also, I think the SEC payout increased by like $5MM that next year. So without knowing what games were played, it was something like $20MM surplus that just vanished to the point we had to take sizable loans from the University to break even.
