Sis sent me pics of some letters he(Junior in HS) received about 2 weeks ago. Two of them are from Mizzou football and in the address part under the phone number they have "WeAreMizzou.com" She said they basically talked about their program, what they've accomplished, etc.

My Nephew is good in football and Baseball. He goes to a 5a school, been playing varsity football and baseball since his Freshman year. Attended Iowa State football camp after his freshman year, this past summer he attended Iowa State and Minnesota football camps. Now he's a junior. He's team captain for football this year, won homecoming King. If he attends Mizzou do they let athletes play football and baseball?? I know LSU have done that in the past.

For the baseball side he got invited to play American Legion summer ball. This past Sunday he just attended a camp in Wichita for top baseball prospects. Received letters from K-State and Creighton to attend their camps, also a letter from the Dominican Republic to go to a camp down there, didn't go because it was over $2,000. And all this after only playing his Freshman and Sophomore years.

Nephew is a 4.0 student..ranked #2 in his class. So academically he can get into any school that recruits him. He plays Corner and WR for now. Will probably be RB next season. Listed as ATH for his recruiting profile and media.

Just wanted to know if Mizzou let athletes play football and baseball.

Its isn't a common occurrence, but there are a few dual sport players. Justin Gage played football and basketball before going to the NFL.

We have a redshirting freshman who is doing both football and baseball. Got drafted fairly high and wanted to be able to play college baseball too. Marquise Doherty.

Marquise Doherty, Freshman. Drafted in the MLB 10th? round.

HIGH SCHOOL
Caught the attention of the Mizzou coaching staff with his combination of smooth, fluid running and exceptional athleticism … A four-star prospect by Rivals and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Missouri, Doherty was also tabbed as the No. 31 running back nationally by Rivals … Also a four-star prospect by ESPN and 247Sports … Ran for 598 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior at Winnetonka … Followed his junior season with an exceptional senior campaign in which he ran for 1,037 yards and 15 scores on 137 carries (7.6 yards per carry) … He also caught 23 passes for 348 yards and two more scores as a senior … Played both sides of the ball, also hauling in a pair of interceptions … First Team All-State DB and First Team All-Conference running back and defensive back as a senior … Excellent baseball player as well, earning 2014 Underclass Third Team All-America honors from PerfectGame … PerfectGame rated him a perfect 10.0 on the prospect scale, which projects him to be an elite-level college player … High School Coach – Sterling Edwards.

PERSONAL
Parents – Denny & Chriss Doherty … Comes from a very athletic family, as he has an older brother, Brandon, who played baseball at Michigan State, while another older brother, Tyler, wrestled at Central Michigan … Chose Mizzou over offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Minnesota and Vanderbilt among others … Cited Mizzou’s family atmosphere among the football program and the comfort level he has with the coaching staff as reasons he signed with Mizzou .. Intends to major in journalism or public relations while at Mizzou … Lists a few of his hobbies outside of football as fishing, playing video games, and free-style rapping.

That's good to know. I'm hoping he goes pro in baseball...but if he plays college football I want him to go to a SEC school to play against the best. He wants to play close to home. Plus I didn't complete my degree from Mizzou, it'd be nice if my nephew got his from Mizzou and play college football there.

Just didn't know if coaches get iffy about recruiting an athlete for one sport and he wants to play another while at that school. Or do they have to get baseball and football letters to play both sports.

If he's good enough they'll let him do what he wants. Unless he is a QB of course!

I wouldn't recommend trying to play 2 sports at the D1 level; you end up diluting yourself and not being very good at either sport.
