Lamar and Cassville play in probably the hardest small school conference in the state.
Before this year the conference was a 8 team conference. They added a few Springfield area schools this year. From 2008 through 2017 they have 11 state championships and 2 teams that placed 2nd in State.
Lamar only won the conference in 15, 16, and 17 even though they have 7 straight state titles. Cassville won the conference in 09, 10, and 11 with State champions in 08 and 09. Monett and Rogerville have the other 2 state champions and Seneca and Mount Vernon have the 2 state 2nd place finishes.
The only year the conference has not had a championship since 2008 is 2010. Cassville lost in the semifinals to the state champs Richmond 21-23.

And they are still a LONG way from Jeff City's 71 straight games. And 33 of those games were shutouts.

Lamar is along way from Jeff City’s 71. I don’t know a lot about Lamar’s football program, but they have not lost to a another 2A program since 2010. Before the lose last night against Cassville(3A) they have 2 loses since 09/07/2012 and both were against 4A schools by a combined 5 points.

Yeah as a small 2A they don't produce much next level talent, I think Samson Bailey is the only Lamar alum on Mizzou's team.
Usually their better guys go to like Missouri State type schools.

Unless things have changed, Lamar is a large 2A school.

I just wanted to say I like when you guys talk about high school football. My brother used to follow it like crazy in SE Missouri.

Lamar has 384 students in 9th-12th grade.
2A schools that have been ranked or in the Lamar area
East Newton 470 students
Richmond 460
Macon 430 students
Blair Oaks 430
Ava 420 students
Sarcoxie 290 students (fixed)
Lawson 380 students
North Calloway 375 students
Palmyra 350 students
Lafayette County 325 students
Lathrop 300 students
Lexington 270 students
Monroe City 245 students
3 conference schools Cassville a Average sized 3A has 590 students, Rogersville a larger 3A has 700 students, and Monett 1st year in 4A has 725 students
Lamar is a average to above average size 2A school and I think they are smallest school in their conference.
It’s not the size of the school it’s the program similar to Webb City.

Then things have changed. 2A used to top out around 300-320 students.

In some sports many of the teams that are 2A in football will be 3A in other sports.
In basketball 2A starts between 120 to 140. Dora and Bakersfield High School’s were both 2A 3 years ago, but have dropped back to 1A. They both have between 115 to 130 students in high school.
I think they change the classification every 2 years in Missouri. Monroe City is a small 2A school in football with around 245 students. Cabool and Penney are both large 1A with around 240 students, while Portageville is still 1A at 245 students. This year Portageville has few more students than Monroe City, but it is in smaller classification.
The numbers I have looked at 2A football starts around 245 students and ends around 490.
