Its been awhile, but I'm dropping in to provide a few updates and a look at next year's roster.
Who we lose: J'den (3x champ, olympic bronze), Lavion Mayes (3x AA, with Finals appearance in 2017), Matt Manley (2x qualifier), Synon (2x qualifier) Lemaniwicz (starter). So a couple big guns are gone, but the team is still relatively in tact.
Got some solid recruits, but none that should set the world on fire right away. Likely all redshirts. But here are the starters, or those who will challenge for spots.
125: Barlow McGhee, Aaron Assad. Can Barlow make 125 anymore? Can he be effective there? Both questions are the key. If one of the answers is no, look for Assad to start in his senior year. Filled in admirably last year, and has moments where he can knock off some studs.
133: Erneste. R12 last year after coming in midseason. Barring a major breakout or injury, the spot is likely his.
141:Jaydin Eierman came up and tore through the backside at NCAA's to AA in his freshman campaign. Spot is his as long as he can make it.
149: Who fills in for Mayes? Whoever, this will be a step back. The 2 most likely (total guess on my part) are Grant Leeth (coming off injuries), or Alex Butler (Blaise's younger brother). Alex filled in last year as a backup and did decent.
157: Joey Lavalle. Returning Finalist. His spot. No weight concerns.
165: Connor Flynn's spot now. Daniel Lewis is rumored to be headed up, and Flynn tore up the open circuit last year, going 24-4.
174: Daniel Lewis just keeps growing. The 2X all american is bumping up (likely).
184: Another open spot (Miklus is also moving up, back from injury). The two top challengers will likely be Dylan Wisman (174 starter last year) or Canten Marriott (RS Fr). Tim Miklus might also make a run.
197: Willie Miklus will try to fill J'den's shoes. He is coming off a major knee injury, but was a 2x AA before that. Sources say he has gotten "BIG" during his injury rehab, with an upper body that would make most heavyweights blush.
285: Austin Myers had a good end to an up and down freshman season. Ended up qualifying for NCAA's. Another year of experience and added weight should be good for him.

There does not seem to be many weak spots in the roster. Solid, with a few really good, wrestlers. It looks like the sort of team that will roll up a lot of points in meets.

Mac lost it's second best team to the B12. I wonder if Mizzou has any other wrestling conference options and if the Mac is hurting them.

I think anything inside the top 10 at the end of the year would be a helluva job by Smith and Company.

Former MU grappler Johnny Eblen won his first MMA match last night in KC.

Don't think the MAC is hurting them right now as Coach Smith has built a national program. In the future though post Coach Smith it could be an issue. Big 12 is still salty or they would have tried to lure Mizzou back. Do not see Big 10 expanding. Maybe EIWA would but they are already at 16 schools?
