This is obviously going to be a hell of a game versus a great opponent. Georgia has obviously got the upper hand, but Mizzou does seem to have a chance to pull this one out. What single thing needs to happen to leave Athens with a W?

For me, I think Mizzou needs to come out and put together scoring drives on the first possessions. So far this year we've seen Mizzou deal with adversity, and the team overall doesn't appear to handle it extremely well. If we come out and get shut down and forced to punt and/or turn the ball over during the first couple drives I think we're in for a long day. We all know the coaching staff doesn't do extremely well with adjustments, and if anything tends to get more conservative when the momentum is on the other side of the ball.

Something I'm sure we've all noticed is that the team does seem to play like a single unit more in the last two seasons than ever, I don't think we'll see a great defensive game without the offense stepping up. Hopefully they can get the game off on a good foot by putting some decent points on the board in the first quarter similar to the game in Nashville.

I think the defense needs to make a statement early. If the defense rises up to the occasion early then I feel better about our chances. If it turns into a shootout I dont think that bodes well for this Mizzou team playing on the road in Athens.

Scoring early and often, we can't afford to get behind by many. Also having long sustaining drives running the ball keeping Georgia's offense off the field, and keeping the mizzou defense fresh.

Momentum.

Both defenses are somewhat ok to lousy at times. Both offenses should score. Yours is very good, ours is kind of unknown with so many new faces. Both teams should score a good bit.

Playing on the road, and ESPECIALLY in a noon game where the crowd won't really be into it, you need to get some momentum on your side. Whether it's an opening drive TD, or answering one of our scores with one of your own, or a big turnover, you've got to take the crowd out of it.

Last week against UT was a perfect example. We were up 17-3 at halftime. We march down the field to start the 3rd and a TD would essentially put the nail in the coffin. But we missed a FG. The crowd is not completely pissed yet. Then they score, now they're hopeful. Then 2 of our best players go down..now they're excited (not due to injury, but bc the playing field got more level). Then they score again and it's a whole new ballgame.

Momentum builds like crazy, and this weekend I think you'll need some. In the LSU game, both offenses were on fire and both defenses sucked. We got momentum though with a few key sacks, a timely turnover by LSU that we recovered and then scored, etc.

I agree with the momentum statements.

Also, on defense we need to pressure Murray. Even with a thinned receiver corp he will pick apart our secondary if we don't force him to make mistakes.

On offense we need to move the ball around like a hot potato. WR's, TE's, RB's, QB should all make yards and keep the GA D guessing. And give up on anything requiring our receivers to block - they just suck at it.

Establish the run. If we make them think about the run the it will give more room to our talented wideouts. Take pressure off Franklin. And keep our defense off the field and stay fresh.

Pretty much agree with all of the above. I am hopeful that our offense will be able to move the ball. Obviously not at will like they did against Vandy, but as long as they can punch it in a few times and change field position in the others it will be all you can hope for.

I think it hinges on when UGA has the ball. Most important for a Mizzou win IMO is 2 things rolled into 1. How will UGA's WR's and RB's handle it and exactly how good are they? They have to be able to give options to Murray. Murray can't do it all on his own and if the only productive options are Lynch and Conley, the Mizzou defense can adjust and key on that, as they probably already will be. The other part of the equation is the Mizzou defense overall. It's a good defense but not great. The line has to get a push to at a minimum get Murray to rush his throws if not out right touches on the QB. UGA's OLine is solid, so this may be asking a lot, but the line with Sam, Ealy and Golden have to get some pressure on Murray.

I think the most important thing to do is score more points. If we manage to score more points than Georgia then I think we will win.

They need to play Mizzou FB. Under GP, our best teams take care of the ball and don't pile up penalties, ranking near the top in the nation in those categories. I said on another board before this season that if GP got the team back to playing that way, good things could happen this year. They are doing just that again this year.

Take care of the ball. No stupid penalties. The rest will take care of itself if they do that.

So right about that toby. It's amazing how many times it does just come down to this.

Fundamentals will be critical. UGA will be playing some kids who might not have the discipline necessary for this game, given that they are freshmen/or backups/or kids who were originally going to redshirt. If we play a solid, clean game this might well be the difference between the two squads-UGA has plenty of depth and talent, that goes without saying. But those second and third line players may not have the discipline of the first teamers.

A good start is definitely a key.

Defensive front getting in the backfield is a major key to victory. If Murray is chased around all day we have a tremendous chance of winning. A key matchup is Sam vs Houston. Sam wins this, I believe.
The way our front has played, and with all our interchangeable diverse parts I am giving them the benefit of the doubt. I think they'll put pressure on Murray.

Our defensive front vs their O-line is, imo, the biggest key to the game.

I also agree with almost everything posted, but I think the biggest keys are getting off to a good start, and allowing our D to get off the dang field. The time I see us struggling is when we get chipped away at. Offense limiting the 3 and outs, and the D making some 3rd down plays. Everything else should take care of itself. Over simplistic? Probably, but its really a simple game.

I'm really looking forward to the game, and I'm glad that this one in Athens is early. That way I'm probably sober enough to remember the whole thing. M-I-Z

I agree. The game is going to be a shootout, and with as banged up as Georgia is at RB and WR, knocking Murray on his arse and forcing him into interceptions is the key.

This is very reminiscent of the way the Greatest Show on Turf Rams played.

The disclaimer first. I am not saying this team is anywhere near the equivalent. But for one game, tonight, this team really reminded me of the greatest show on turf years here in St. Louis. Back in those days, you felt like it didn't matter if it was 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 15. One was just as easy to pick up as the other. Tons of weapons with the receivers. Legitimate running game(though Mizzou uses a 3 headed beast). A defense that isn't as good as the offense, but is ok in it's own right and steps up from time to time to make a huge play. But the offense is just relentless. If we don't get you on this play, we'll get you on the next. Picking up 10 yards at will. Fun stuff to watch. Now hopefully we can carry it forward the rest of the way.

My post following the Vandy game Mizz-SEC.

Who ever covers best on the outside will win this game. I believe EJ is the key to this game. Both offenses will put up numbers, both defenses will let the offenses put up numbers. I think having EJ to shut down one side of the field puts UGA at a severe disadvantage that will turn into multiple turnovers for them. I honestly think Mizzou wins by 10.
