IF race is/was an issue, we need to recruit more players and less cheerleaders

I've turned it off. Just disgusting to watch. Taking a nap then switching on the 2:30/3:00 games. Don't care who wins then, so it's just enjoying the game.

And if ANYONE does they’re looking for excuses for their own failures

275 rushing yards in the first half….yeah if I’m Drink I’m playing some young guys.

If I’m Wilks at half I’m telling the D if you don’t want to give 200% stay the frick in the locker room

I can't believe this team went 5-5 in an all SEC schedule last year.

They had an identity on O and D last year with Rountree and Bolton.

There's no one like either to rally around this time.

That said, we could have easily been 3-7 last year.

Glad you played the race card bc that was needed

That wasn’t a “woke” take or whatever you want to call it. That’s just facts.

In some cases you are recruiting black kids who have no real substantive interactions with other races based on circumstance or location. Similarly to predominantly white or Hispanic areas in this country. Only difference is they will now be put into a situation they have no idea how to navigate.

Whether it’s Kirby going into SWAT’s, Saban going into Finley or Maysville in AL, or Drink on the East Side/ North Side of STL, when they pull up for that home visit and the matriarch or patriarch of the family asks “Will you take care of my boy?”, a black kid who is probably 15 or 16 when you start recruiting them, what does a coach do or say? What examples does he lean on to show if you give me your 4 or 5 star talent that yes I practice what I preach?

Hate him or not, Pinkel and Ivey both did that and that speaks volumes. Now meeting other needs that those kids and their families may want or need, we can’t and don’t compete with the top half SEC teams to close the deal. We put it on coaches a lot, which is a big part, but sometimes the other variables keeps up where we at.

And you question Drink on these issues?

Drink has either the most AA assistants in the SEC or in Missouri history.

Race has no place in this conversation.

I agree. Someone brought up the protest and it derailed the convo. Let’s move on from it.

That would be a hilarious take if you put it as a white kid.

“My kid from West Plains is only around white kids. How are you going to meet his unique emotions and social-cultural needs?”

Hilarious.

I would seriously have no problem cutting everyone on defense and blowing it up, including the defensive staff

My point is Drink does not have an issue at all with race. My point is that Mizzou handled the stuff around 2015 in a positive manner. I responded to the first post about the protest being an issue. My response just highlighted the why on how it was handled was important.

Not horseshite. Bobby Bowden and Barry Switzer made this point 40+ years ago. Hell, Barry credited his father's black mistress as the reason he did so well recruiting in black homes.

Fact is, in our personal lives, we are pretty segregated. So we don't really comprehend the different priorities of people with different backgrounds. One group looks at the "boycott" as a problem where another sees it as "about time." Its Navigating those differences has an effect on recruiting.

Since I am being real.

This will be my last reply, and you think that’s hilarious, but in a locker room or hell across a lot of other scenarios, there is an acclimation and culture shock for everyone who lives in siloed communities.

So that kid from white plains, yes, coaches and others help that kid navigate environments they are not accustomed to.

You have succinctly noted the problem.

That’s a gap that can’t be bridged.
