I thought I'd see what our competition thought about the opener, then get the take from everyone here.

WVU fans generally see an easy win. I think their OL gets a big surprise and Harris meets Howard several times. They will score, but not at will and it will be a battle. Our offense surprises early in the run game, and their with their defense weakened by losses and inexperience we battle out a close win 24-17 ZOU.

I don't know. I'm beginning to think we need to score 30 to win. Our D is stout but it's not like we held everyone to the teens and WVU put up points against a lot of teams, including a Bama defense. I'll be a homer and say we win 30-24

I have no idea about this game.
WVU has last a couple starters off its defense due to injury. Also had a OL get a DUI. Is he set to play?
If Mizzou's offense is bad like last year, Mizzou loses this game.
But if they offense approaches average Mizzou can win.

WVU can put points up. But, if you look at the scores from last year as an indicator, they didn't fare as well against P5 teams.

Lost to Oklahoma - 44-24
Lost to OK State - 33-26
Lost to TCU - 40-10
Lost to K State - 24-23

And I have more faith in out defense than any of these teams.

Word from many WVU fans is that their QB Skylar Howard turns the ball over. If we stuff the run and force the pass game, pressure the QB into bad throws, this could be a low scoring affair.

I know I know, what ifs.

But they didn't play Bama???

They did play TCU and scored 10 points. Odom with this much time to prepare and having Cross on staff gives me plenty of confidence.

Looking at scores from Big 12 games really doesn't translate that well IMO. Just a completely different style of play.

Bama was two years ago.

Agree that they aren't the same. But, I think the difference is our defense is pretty well proven effective. And with Cross on staff we should be in good shape to slow WVU down.

Also, WVU runs a 3-3-5 D, don't they? That doesn't translate well defending a run first offense does it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if our RBs come out swinging, that sets up well for us.

As I have said before, this is our most important game of the season. And I think BO is well aware of that.

If we get creamed, we will all be on the ledge on Labor Day.

I think our defense will shut down the run but allow a couple of deep plays while our offense with the help of Alex Ross will put up some great points on a weak wvu D.

24-17 Mizzou.

their OL

Aren't they down 2 or 3 linemen? If so we win comfortably as in 31-6. Yeah I'm a homer too so take that into consideration.

I believe they lost 2 DL to graduation, 1 OL to DUI (I think they are announcing his suspension soon), 4 of 5 starting DB, and are young at LB with little depth. Their OL is probably their strongest position unit. But I also don't think they've been tested by a DL of our caliber.

I have no idea about this game. I haven't followed WVU closely enough. If our D comes to play, and doesn't need much time to knock the rust off, we have a great chance to win.

Sure there's always a chance. But not necessarily a great chance. Which I think we have here assuming the defense isn't rusty. First game of the year, on the road, hostile environment, unknown offense, new coaching staff - who knows?

Mizzou wins, but not by much. 24-20

Gonna be some growing pains, tough first game given all the variables.

If I was WVU I would feel good as well. All assumptions made by casual fans is based off of past performance, sooooo...

Our defense is good, but it has shown a lack of ability to create scoring opportunities to help our offense and eventually they give up scores to above average offenses based off of time on field.

So from my perspective, I say 30-17 Mizzou... We go into the half 13-7, outscore the Mountaineers 14-0 in 3rd with both scores being set up off short fields. WV gives us scares in the 4th with Lock throwing a pick and other mistakes but they only manage 1 TD and FG.

I see us putting up 450+ yds of offense with 225 on the arm of Lock.

I also see us upsetting one of LSU or Tennessee on the road, and I'm actually leaning to LSU, but that could change if Harris is halfway decent. If that's the case we lose to them by 20.
