Look out for this kid. I've been friends with him since middle school and he's the greatest athlete I've ever seen. His balance is just stupid good. He sent one kid straight into brain surgery when we played ball in middle school because he hit him so hard. The other teams coaches were yelling "He's going to hard!" Our team would throw it to him every play until we decided to make him QB just so he could touch the ball every play. We literally had a play called "Throw it to Lawrence." You heard it here first, he's insane. Be looking for him to explode.

Welcome and thanks for the insight Dubya. Sounds like he's been impressing in the fall too. Fully expect him to actually get time as a true freshman. Will be fun to watch.

Cool. Pinkel and players have praised his play so far. Supposedly had a one handed catch today that drew some ahhhsss. We need playmakers so he has a good shot at skipping the red shirt.

With QB roster Mizzou has on tap, Lee and Nate Brown among others are going to be superstars,, you can book market down.

Lee needs a short yardage thrower, Mauk is not that, I don't believe.
With the massive WR's and Franklin, Lee would have been an excellent little weapon last year.
With the size down at WR, and a more long range missile thrower, Lee isn't in as good of a spot to succeed as he could've been, but will still be a star.
When Lee committed I knew he was special, like a Percy Harvin type.

so Mauk can nut 50 to 60 yarders but has a problem hitting 15 yards out? ok
In truth many of our spread patterns even when they are quick slants wind up being 20-30 yard passes through the air. I know some don't like MM's unorthodox motion but it doesn't really matter when the ball get's there, it gets there.
Some players don't find their top gear until game day, when you've been through the grind of practice, esp when we had 2 a days, you understand. Like Josey his first year out they didn't think much of his practices but when game day came he averaged over 6.5 a pop. MM may only have "it" on gameday but that's really enough.
As we've seen in the SEC you pretty much have to have 2 good QB's ready to go every Sat., so I think Mizzou is the right place for these young, budding receivers.

Absolutely, which is not uncommon at all.
Guy has a gun, and touch 20 yards out, but doesn't have touch under 10 yards, hopefully he's worked on that, unfortunately it's usually a natural gift that is hard to acquire through practice.

Nah, Maclin used to get those little underneath passes and turn them into big gains.

They don't do two-uh-days at Mizzou, and I have done them myself.

no, they stopped last year, before then they had always done 2 a days. My point is you can get up for practice to a certain level and for some it's all the same but for others on G-day you get up even further.

I'm confused what any of this has to do with Mauk's ability to have touch on short passes?
What does getting up on game day's have to do with it?

Apparently two a days are old hat.
Mauk lacks touch on those quick hitters, that's no secret.
This might be a good time to remind everyone that he's only a sophomore.
Lots of folks in Mizzou Nation pinning their hopes on MM, and while I believe he's got "it". I expect some problems. Especially with the receivers he's working with.
He'll be just fine, but we aren't going to win 12 games again because he's our QB.
It's gonna take a team effort. If we win the East this year, it will be legit, because it's going to be a fricking grind.

Touch is a gift, Mauk will not be unwrapping that present anytime ever.

It's funny, Brad Smith actually had great "touch", Chase didn't have the strength to throw on the run, he couldn't hit a 20 yarder very easily if his feet weren't planted. Gabbert had no touch at all and with his arm strength that was a problem. Franklin was all over the place, one week he had "it" the next he was rubber arming it like the last beaker game.
At this point I have more faith in Mauk than just about any QB since Phil Bradley, I think he can be a "do it all" guy. Run like the wind, hit the bomb and roll out and plant it on a receivers finger tips.
That said, so might Prinz, and Lock may be the best ever.

I believe everything a QB has in his arsenal, other than heart, and a natural cannon, is coached.
MM will get there, and it will probably be this season. He's just not there right now.

Agree with the coaching comment, he's really just getting started with the "fine tuning" aspect of his game.
Not having seen scrimmages I'm not sure what the problem is, that's why I brought up the motivation factor, his brain may just focus better when the scoreboard matters, or maybe he's just making a conscientious effort to check down more and his "brain is getting in the way", I've got more confidence in Hill being able to "fix" a QB issue than Yost, so there is that too.
Lee's measurables:
40:4.45 secs
Shuttle:4.09
still seems like a good candidate to throw the bomb to.

Touch and cerebral ability (in game intuition) are most definitely not coachable traits.
You can't teach someone soft hands, you can't teach someone touch.
Maybe, I hope, he'll be adequate with his short yard passes, but it will never be his forte.

Sheer speculation on my part, but since Mauk knows he has the job, I'm wondering if it's possible he's been focusing on doing little things he hasn't mastered yet. Scrimmages are the place to try new things, not games. If he was competing for a spot, he'd have to show a lot more to the coaches, but since he's not, it may allow him the latitude to work on new techniques. The first thing that happens when you try to change what you do is you look horrible doing it until you develop muscle memory and experience at that skill. Perhaps this is a little of what's going on.

I've had this thought as well.
