It's BB for me also. Why? It has to do with the rivals. k-puke in particular. I love to hate those freakin beakers and they never disapoint in giving reasons to hate'm. Now we can not hate just K-puke, but now we can take some out on Arkytards. Some seem to be just like beakers.

Imagine how outrageously funny it would be to stop at a dusty desert gas station or cafe and walk inside dressed in drag with 5 oclock shadows or full beards.
It would be a hilarious social experiment in crazy.

When I was growing up, it was basketball, and it wasn't even close. For the very reasons you mentioned. The shift for me started in the late 90's.

In the Summer and Fall: FOOTBALL
in the Winter and Spring (early spring): BASKETBALL
honestly it really just depends on the season for me, I would probably prefer a football title over a basketball title... although a basketball Final Four would be preferred over a (soon to be) football Final Four I think

Guys, this will lose me some points....but I couldn't care much less about watching pro sports in any sport, except maybe KC Royals or Chiefs....and we all know how that has been a slippery slope. 
But I enjoy college competition and can get wrapped up in a game that doesn't include our Tigers, in football or basketball. Baseball less so, if it is a low scoring affair.
Edit: I do like to watch the pros play tennis!
