If the Illini don't end up with Bennett (which a I don't think they will), I can't see them being very happy with their hire.

I figured that would be where Keatts ended up.

NC State had a no brainer here

Kind of thought they would go with Crean and Keatts would end up at Illinois

Crean stays unemployed a year? He wouldn't go LSU would he? Illinois?

Illinois seems set on getting a name coach. Keatts isn't a name coach yet. I think he will be in 3-5 years.

Illinois isn't even the best job available in the Big 10. They still has to compete with Indiana. It's not looking good for them.

I would have rather taken a chance on him than Martin.

I liked Keatts style of play better. Martin is a good coach. Tennessee finished 10th in KenPom his Martin's last season there.

Nah.

I actually could see Crean sitting out the year just to make IU pay his full buyout.

I hear ya, but Martin may have found his home finally. No doubt he can turn into an elite recruiting machine in an area he is very familiar with. What he can do with it is the key. This hire is slowly growing on me, but he needs to update that ridiculous offense of his.

He can't ask for anything more..... This isn't TN or Cal. He's home, it's up to him to make us great again.... I for one will support his efforts in doing so.

If his first class, is a borderline top 5 like several here claim it will be.....What a great start that would be.

Like you said...... Lets see what he does with this golden opportunity.

Agree, and I'm wondering what our local brain pans here, can share if they think there's a chance that can happen.

Keatts might end up a better coach, but the chance you're taking on him is much greater. With Martin, you know the floor, and it looks like the ceiling can still go quite a bit higher. I'm happy with the decision Sterk made.

Illinois, however, I think is gonna be screwed. Indiana's clearly a better job. Depending on whether you believe Finebaum, we got the guy Illinois wanted. Groce earned his fate after five years without ever finishing above .500 in conference play, but I suspect they're not going to get much better than him.

Yup, Keatts could just as easily bust as boom.

Martin gives you a pretty high floor, and I'd also argue a pretty damn high ceiling as well.

You know he'll recruit. You know his teams will play defense. Improve his offensive philosophy a bit and we have something very special.

Only 2 NCAA Tournaments in 9 years is very underwhelming. California really flopped the last month of the season. I would rather go get F. Martin, Miller, Keats, Drew, or one of the mid major candidates.

I could see Crean at Illinois. Bet he would get a thrill playing Indiana every year.

Can't see Crean at Illinois.

They're hoping to get Monty Williams, but he's an NBA guy. Or Archie Miller. Both would keep that assistant that CMartin is trying to get for the inside track on Tilman.

At least that's the chatter on their forum.
