How far away is Mizzou basketball from relevancy?

It was pretty cool seeing Mizzou arena going nuts. It’s been quite some time.

I realize the talent isn’t quite there, but it seems like recruiting is progressing nicely. Is it fair to expect an NCAA tourney trip next year?

Probably 2-3 seasons. Recruiting will be better.

Remains to be seen if Gates can coach defense ...

But at least the offense is more fun to watch.

In basketball, you’re only ever one big class away from relevancy and a tournament run. Gates has what, 3 four stars in 23 class? If he hits on all three, Mizzou will win 20.

Next year’s class only needs one, because only 3 players run out of eligibility because of COVID. Tre Gomillion, DeAndre Gholston and D'Moi Hodge played JuCo in the 2019-2020, so they don’t get the extra year. Kobe, Mosley, Honor, Carter and East get a extra year.

Mosley, Kobe, and Shaw is a good foundation for next years team. If Mosley can play

Fair question. I would define relevant as an NCAA tourney team.

I mean there are 36643783 slots to get in the thing.

We very well can make the tourney this year. Is that relevant? KU shot lights out against us also. That UCF team is decent too that they just beat. They've beat multiple P5 teams and lost to Miami by 2.

True.

Lots of teams seem to shoot lights out against Mizzou. It happens when they beat the press and it leads to a wide open 3. For the record I still think we could make the tourney as well, just pointing out that it’s not a coincidence that opponents shoot 37.6% from 3 against us. That is the highest % of any P5 team (and ranked 328 out of 352 D1 teams)

Maybe the press still think he is still the HC.

Well I think Mizzou knocks off at least one of the top SEC teams this season (hopefully not us) so that trends towards relevant.

Obviously the goal is an NCAA bid. Going to the NIT and having a big run wouldn't be the end of the world. Y'all may need to do some work in the SEC tournament but that could be manageable.

It isn't like some of the programs in the SEC this year that are just hoping to get an SEC win or two in conference play. Missouri has something to play for and the better you do the better next year will be.

Well damn boys…

We might just have something brewing THIS year. What a glorious beatdown of Illannoy.

That was one of the most enjoyable games I’ve watched in as long as I can remember.

That was the best beat down of a good OOC opponent by an SEC team I've seen this year. That was just a good old fashioned arse kicking there.

I don't know just how good they are or can be. But they're not bad.

Hey! Basketball is a game, not a social experiment! Who knew?
