Bourdain's Parts Unkown episode last night was set in Vegas.

Part of his theme was the repercussions of a place where everyone comes to behave their worst.

Love his take on things.

Let's go get some drinks.

The C concourse is the worst. I'm assuming you're on Southwest. All that trash just wondering around in that small arse concourse.

Pass.

Hit the nail on the head my friend. Flying Southwest. Thanks Obama.

It's insane around here. I'm guessing all the degenerates that are here have either:

A. Been gambling and drinking all night. Have no money, and somehow have found a way to the airport.

B. Missed their flight yesterday, spent the extra night gambling and drinking, have no money and maxed out credit cards, and have somehow found a way to the airport.

Yeah, it's the weekend warrior trip out.

Back in the day America West ran all the red eye connecting flights through Las Vegas so the airport was busy as hell from like 10PM to 6AM. It was awesome for me being young and needing cheap flights, but that was pretty brutal when it came to the people you had to wait with in the terminal or sit next to on the plane.

Well, I'm flying to OKC. I'm sure you can picture the demographic currently seated at my gate.

It's night and day from my flight out of SD.

ETA: there's 3 passengers in Hoverounds. It takes them where they want to go.

Came with my family in high school. Been trying to get out ever since.

It really does trap you with the decent winter weather, 24 hour availability of everything, and the attractions. I mostly hate the weather, but it can deal with it I guess. 93 today.

No state income tax helps out a lot too.

That's right, you almost ended up in Tmec right?

I get it, I've been trapped in SoCal since I pulled into port in '98. I've been close once or twice but couldn't do it. The damn weather is a big deal once you've lived in it for an extended period of time.

Once my parents moved out to SoCal, I knew I was never getting back to the Midwest until at least retirement.

I'm looking forward to thunderstorms and some KC BBQ over the next two weeks.

I really miss the storms. I'm a big weather geek and love that kind of stuff, you don't get anything really exciting here in Vegas. The oppressive heat doesn't help me, either. I'm uncomfortable in anything over 90 with humidity or without.

Vegas has a lot of shortfalls, but I'm 20 minutes from a huge number of world class restaurants and entertainment. I don't really take full advantage of it, there is something cool about living in a place where millions come to visit.

It's not unusual, a lot of people that leave Vegas come back to live after giving it a short somewhere else. Even all the foreign kids coming to Vegas for the hospitality management degrees (And there are a ton) always want to stay or wind up coming back to live.

The big joke is that UNLV stands for "U'll Never Leave Vegas."

We should all meet up at Table Rock Lake for a long weekend away. We'll go out on the boat, dock in a secluded cove near Brad Pitt's lake home, have a hell of a time just being hooligans, etc.

I guarantee that you'll see a beautiful storm or two.

That's what I missed when I lived in Escondido, CA. Beautiful weather...but I missed the seasons.

With here we get the seasons, but there's two terrible ones. It doesn't get super cold here, but the winter isn't like being in the Caribbean or even SoCal. It gets down to the 20s and 30s, which doesn't sound too bad, but the swing between 115 and 30 will make anyone cold once you're here a few years and your tolerance for extreme temps starts getting all messed up after the summers.

The spring and the fall are nice, but they don't last very long. The trees at my house went from being bare, to flowering, to green in like three weeks.

I've been trying to get Ms. Zo out to Missouri for a football vacation and it just doesn't go over well when it's like 2 extra hours of travel to get to the Caribbean. Hell, after getting her onto a tropical island it's even been rough trying to get her to go to Chicago, and we love Chicago. She works a lot of hours and those vacations are almost always best spent drinking cheap beer next to a warm ocean.

I did, that's really weird because the gear isn't protected from the temperatures or lack of oxygen up there.

That's a really weird story, usually they find those people dead.

Yep, I'm totally stoked about the Wx situation for the next two weeks. I've already heard the local Wx guy suggest we stay close to the tv this weekend.

I cannot wait.

I love TB Lake, one of our retirement considerations. That or a beach house in Thailand.

Yep. If I add up all the time I've spent here for training, it comes out to about 2 years.

That's 2 years of my life spent in Oklahoma.

Think about it, Oklahoma.
