Did not even make the semi finalist cut for the Butkus award (top 10).

What a total fricking joke.

That is a pretty egregious omission.

How can anyone take the award seriously?

Everybody above said it all. These "awards" are bogus and here's your proof.

If Kentrell is a first round pick, it will only be more pathetic. I don't know where he is on the boards but he is one hell of a player. Glad he's Mizzou made.

Agree....complete bullshite.......here's the email address to the guy that runs the Butkus Foundation: rarp@butkusfoundation.org

Edit: I emailed the guy and he replied (probably because I wasn't a dick.....just said it was a shame).

Here's his reply:

quote:

Thanks Walt. I can understand your perspective. The way the selection works is that we ask our panel of selectors which are posted at BLOCKEDthebutkusawardcomBLOCKED for their top three linebackers, and then we tally up the results. It's that simple. It wasn't that Kentrell was
somehow left off the list but instead he didn't get enough votes in our 3-2-1 voting process to make the list. Every year, we have a few really good
linebackers who don't get enough votes to make the list, and that was the case here. If the selectors feel they got it wrong or if someone emerges late in the season, they could be added to the finalist or winners ballot through write in.

My reply to this:

quote:

Thanks for the reply Ron.

Just an FYI - maybe you guys can get a "greatest hits" on Kentrell from Mizzou and send it to Dick; I'll bet he'll approve of his addition.

Interesting. At least there is an explanation. But they got this one wrong, for sure. I hope Mizzou are lobbying to have him added, and that the SEC office is supporting that effort. Just because we are having a bad season, he shouldn't be penalized when he's as fantastic as he is.

Yea if Mizzou was 8-0 or 7-1 he's on the list. He's being punished because of a terrible offense.

Nice to know he still has a chance to be considered. When you look at the list and he has double the tackles as most on the list, you would hope they notice.

No kidding. I would imagine it would take a LOT of lobbying at this point though.

That shows how nonsensical it is. It also explains why the list is heavy with LBs from blue blood/TV appearing teams.

Their reasoning is that he just makes a lot of tackles, but without a lot of impact and at crucial times. There have been a lot of players that have led the NCAA's in rushing, passing or receiving yards and didn't get nominated or even get drafted high or at all in the NFL. Their reasoning and not mine.

Usually that is because they play a terrible level of competition. If some guy in the MAC has 2,000 receiving yards people don't care.

Find me a 2,000 yard rusher/receiver in a P5 conference that has ever been ignored.

It's because it's not resulting in wins. Not his fault though

USC isn't blowing the doors off people this year.

What's fricking hilarious is they had one guy on LSU and one guy on Louisiana State University.

How the frick do you nominate two guys from the same school and than use different names to throw people off.

Whole thing is a crock of shite.

Kendall Beckwith, LSU
Su'a Cravens, USC
Kyler Fackrell, Utah State
Leonard Floyd, Georgia
Deion Jones, Louisiana State University
Blake Martinez, Stanford
Raekwon McMillan, Ohio State
Antonio Morrison, Florida
Reggie Ragland, Alabama
Jaylon Smith, Notre Dame

Pure garbage
