Haven't heard anything official, but it sounds like we are out on Mulder.

When Meyer was asked about him in the interview he basically said lets talk about some other guys that Mizzou has a shot at.

He has visited Indiana, Louisville, and Creighton. Still think he goes to WSU.

We've been out on Mulder (unofficially) for some time.

So who is going after Eubanks? He's the last recruit I really give a dang about.

Texas, UCLA, Oregon, & a few others.
Now that Barnes is at Tennessee I am sure they will be after him as well.

Mike Edwards is visiting Nebraska this weekend, in a new Rivals article he doesn't mention Mizzou at all. Another miss by the coaching staff it seems.

I would prefer a 5th year big over Edwards. Mizzou is in on a number of impact players in '16 & '17.
But right now only has Rosburg and Clark in those classes.

Taking 2 JUCOs helps in '17, but still only 1 senior next year.

While it would be nice to get a 5th year big, those are worth their weight in gold. We won't be able to pull in one of any worth when teams like Arizona, ku, and others are recruiting them hard too.

On another note, it sounds like Payne and Woods are probably going to commit to Mizzou. I'm pretty meh on Payne as he doesn't appear to meet a need for Mizzou and I would rather have Eubanks here to develop more than a JUCO kid, but Woods we have to have. While he's not great, he's better than anything we have now.

One of The great thing about a 5th year player is if they aren't what you needed it's only 1 year.

I do t know how a player that shoots over 40% from 3 doesn't fit a need for Mizzou. 1 guy that can consistently hit shots would completely change how teams defend Mizzou. Last year teams didn't bother worrying about the shooters because we didn't have them. Although Wright started showing signs at the end of the year.

I'm assuming Tatum and Porter. Can't think of any other impact players we're in on.

People close to Martavian Payne tell me the juco star is leaning heavily towards signing with #Mizzou @KSDKSports

Let's hope he can do that at Mizzou if he comes here. I haven't watched any of his video but something makes me wonder if he's so damn good, why is he a 2*, why did he originally commit to SEMO and why aren't any other big names going after him besides maybe Creighton and KSU?

Payne is from STL originally, which is why I always assumed we'd take him. KA has no chops outside the state, so he has to take whatever he can get locally.

I'm not knocking Payne, I'm sure he's a good little player, but he's no 4* like Mulder, and he's undersized for a SG. It seems like undersized teams are a theme of KA's, Puryear is a 6'7 PF, Woods is a 6'8 210 lb C (same size as Gant, btw), Payne is a 6'2 SG, Isabell is a 6'0 SG, Allen is a 6'7 SF forced to play PF. Etc. Just an observation.

I get amused by Mizzou fans disparaging recruits, without actually watching them play.
I have only seen Woods & Payne play once, but he looked for real. His team played Mulder's team and Payne was the best player in the court that day.
Doesn't mean that he will come in an score 15 a game, but the general consensus amount recruiters us that he would make Mizzou better.

I watched online when he played in the NJCAA, he looked good but undersized. If you google him there are articles from an Illinois prep site saying he's a very good midmajor caliber player. I don't understand, I'm not picking on him personally, I just don't think he'll be enough to push us to where we need to go, why is that such a bad thing to say? We're here to discuss Mizzou sports, not everyone will agree all the time, why is having a differing opinion bad?

I think he's probably about as good as we can do right now, FWIW.

You're right he's not good enough to get Mizzou into the tournament, but he is good enough to make Mizzou better. If Mizzou can get to .500 then sophomores & juniors that can get Mizzou to where it wants to be will see the progress and maybe give Mizzou a chance.

Was interesting to hear the Meyer interview he thought Payne & Woods make Mizzou better.
He also knew next to nothing about VanLeer & Puryear.
Could be good in that similar to football or bad in that they never stood out on the AAU circuit.

LINK
Link to Illinois article.

quote:

John A Logan sophomore 6’2” shooting guard Martavian Payne is one of the best pure scorers I have seen on the JUCO level this year. He can beat a defense in so many ways and is just a flat out scorer! He excels with his elite athleticism and speed in the transition game both pushing it and as a wing finisher. The sophomore likes to create turnovers and turn them into buckets at the other end to get himself and his team going.

This is what Mizzou needs.

Any mid-major looking for a bucket getter should be knocking down Payne’s door! He is also garnering some high major attention

Rivals is saying Woods and Payne are a package deal and both are expected (or have already told the staff) they are coming here. I really like Woods game, he reminds me of an older Gant. Payne was a teammate of Rosburg back in HS his freshman and sophmores year.

Speaking of Gant, PM is saying they are hearing both he and Isabell will return, so that's good news.

Woods reminds me of a stronger version of Gant. Good low post game.

So 3 open scholarships, 2 go to Payne and Woods sounds like. Who gets the last one?

Just watched the Payne and Woods highlights someone posted on TB. Payne seems to be solid. Woods, at least from that highlight video, I'm not sold on. Half of his highlights are just from warmups, not even in a game. Who the heck does that? I'm assuming a friend or wannabe scout or something. Not him, himself. The other half looked to be from practices or something. Not saying he won't be a player, but ya certainly can't see it from those highlights.
