It's mainly just TBTB and notsince. They both have to be close to 100 years old. We'll be fine.

Recruiting!!! (Obligatory mention in recruiting thread to stay on topic.)

Agree with Triple, Van Leer's highlight tape of his shooting is pretty impressive. Kid has deeeeep range. Teams aren't just made up of kids that can jump. If they land Bryant the class is immediately top 20 IMO with another spot to fill. The young talent on this team coupled with obvious immediate playing time seems to be the pitch. I for one am looking for this team to gel in year one and surprise some people. This would obviously most likely help on the recruiting front as well. Need some more bball chatter with the season upon us

I would love to see Vanleer's AAU tape. At Pacific he's probably not facing another college basketball player most games, let alone a D1 player, so it's hard to get a feel for his skill level. He only shot 33% from 3pt according to his Maxpreps page, which is average to below average, so I would expect that to go way up this season if he's the shooter he's billed to be. He averaged 21+ pts a game, but it also seems like he took a ton of shots to get there. I also wonder if he's athletic enough to guard the caliber of athletes he'll face in the SEC.

Now that he's signed I hope he is successful and can be a nice 10-15 minute a game sharp-shooter for us.

I actually like vanleer a lot. Watch his hudl and you will see. He is definitely a amazing shooter which you need on a team and is very skilled with Phemnomal footwork, he just isn't as athletically gifted as the higher rated guys but I think he is more skilled and will shock a lot of you. If we can get a blakeney, lyle, or bryant then this will be a good class that will fit in nicely with the team next year.

I haven't watched his film and I don't know if it would show it or not based on the competition level he's playing, but my biggest concern with him would be his quickness if he's not that athletic. Will he be able to get a shot off?

I got no problem with dissenting views or thoughts or concerns. We're all going to view things differently. We just don't have to be douches to each other at the same time.

Hell, some times I come in thinking one thing and get educated and leave believing the opposite. Kim Anderson case in point. But that's a part of the reason I come here. Not just to talk shite, but to find out new information, ideas, thoughts and whatever.

Anderson adds two in-state hoopsters to his 2015 recruiting class

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men’s Basketball head coach Kim Anderson has announced two signings for the program’s 2015 recruiting class, with talented student-athletes Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Cullen VanLeer (Pacific, Mo.) inking with the Tigers. A 6-7 forward, Puryear has starred for Blue Springs South High School, averaging 19.2 points and 8.6 rebounds as a junior this past season. Standing 6-4 from the guard position, VanLeer posted a solid 21.9-point average for Pacific High School as a junior.

“We are excited about the addition of Kevin and Cullen to our program,” Anderson said. “Both come from outstanding high school and non-scholastic programs. Kevin has had the chance to play for Coach Jimmy Cain at Blue Springs South High School and L.J. Goolsby at KC Run GMC, while Cullen played for his father John at Pacific High School and Scott Schroepfer’s St. Louis Gateway program.

“They are two of the top players in the state of Missouri, and we are elated that they have decided to stay home and be members of the Tiger basketball family. Additionally, they are both high character young men who are winners.”

Puryear was a First Team All-State honoree from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association as a junior in 2014, complimenting a standout season for South head coach Jimmy Cain. Blue Springs South was powered by Puryear to a strong 21-4 record and second round appearance in the Class 5 District Tournament. Puryear and his teammates recorded an impressive 22-2 mark and advanced to the Class 5 State Tournament during his sophomore season.

“Kevin is a versatile, combo forward who brings a great blue collar, tough mentality that fits the culture we are trying to create here at Mizzou,” Anderson said. “He can shoot it from the perimeter or go inside and mix it up. He takes great pride in being a Missouri Tiger.”

With additional junior season averages of 6.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals, VanLeer has proven to have a versatile game while playing for father and Pacific head coach John VanLeer. The younger VanLeer was honored for his well-rounded game by the MBCA, earning First Team All-State recognition as both a sophomore and junior in Class 3 and Class 4, respectively.

VanLeer’s Pacific squad posted a stout 20-5 record this past season, advancing to the second round of the Class 4 District Tournament. Pacific also made an appearance in the district tournament round during his sophomore campaign.

“Cullen meets an important need for us next year,” Anderson said. “He is an outstanding shooter with deep range and is a solid ball handler. Like Kevin, he is also an in-state kid who takes great pride in wearing the Black & Gold. With both young men, Coach Loos did an outstanding job of developing a good relationship early on, along with the rest of our staff.”

The two Show-Me State standouts have been strong players on the travel ball circuit, with Puryear proving the strength of his interior game with KC Run GMC and VanLeer earning a sharpshooter’s reputation with St. Louis Gateway. VanLeer shot 35 percent from three-point range for the club over the summer.

Puryear is excited to get started at Mizzou in the Fall of 2015, relishing the opportunity to bring his intensity and tenacity to the Mizzou Arena court.

“I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be a part of my dream school,” Puryear said. “I’m just very happy to be in the Mizzou family.”

VanLeer, focused on contributing to the Tigers’ squad immediately, echoed his signing class partner’s feelings about putting on the Black & Gold uniform.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Mizzou Basketball family,” VanLeer said. “Being a Missouri kid, I take great pride in being able to play for and attend the University of Missouri.”

I think as much as the players, I think the whole "Proud to be a Missourian" mentality was the goal here. Gotta get that mentality to take hold and spread to guys like Tatum, Porter and others.

I'm not sure what your point is. These kids are solid recruits that signed with Mizzou and they are home state kids. There is no need to insult them just because they aren't national level elite recruits.

People give their thoughts on recruiting classes all of the time. If you think a post is inappropriate, flag it and me or semo will take a look at it. If you disagree with a post, state so much. Start attacking posters and you'll be gone.

Notsince, it's pretty clear you take issue with me and that's cool. I lose zero sleep over it. It's a message board. I think you do add good info (i.e. the info on that JUCO football recruit who pointed a gun at someone), but if you can't "cut the crap" with other posters, we'll go without your info.

So what does calling these two recruits "nothing" accomplish? what does that add? I don't think it is inappropriate in a place like this but it is no different than me calling them out for it. Hell, I didn't even say to stop, just stop in this thread. People are going to bitch, no stopping that.

I agree with you on that, so state it. Tell us why they are something. I'm not being a smart arse when I say educate us. Not all of us know everything about all of these kids. I think what many of us see is MU seemingly going after Whitt and Morgan first, missing on them and then landing Puryear and VanLeer.

Bottom line is the kids can play a shitload better basketball than I could ever dream to play or they wouldn't be playing at the college level, period. So what do you see as their strengths?

VanLeer is obviously a shooter. I had asked about his quickness. I recall Tim Stock from DeSmet. Could light it up from outside. Knock was he was too slow and too slow developing his shot or else he would have made it at the next level. Again, not being a dick, but tell me what you know that says I'm wrong about being concerned about his speed/quickness.

I know squat about Puryear. If I'm correct, he did play for the top AAU team in KC, so that's a positive. How does his game compare to say Morgan? 2 completely different types of players? I don't know.

As for where such opinions are voiced, I think I'd rather see it buried on page 56 of a thread than having a whole new thread on the first page of the Missouri board that just blares "Our basketball recruiting sucks". But I'll give it thoughts.

All we know about any recruit other than star ratings is that they either come to Mizzou or don't. We'll learn what they are when they play in games. T

So, what I can tell you about these kids is that they are from Missouri and love Mizzou. Both grew up wanting to be Mizzou Tigers. Both were good enough to get scholarship offers. Both are now Mizzou Tigers and that is far from "nothing."

Well, for whatever it's worth I agree and even said as much. I had said earlier, I think what's worth almost as much as anything else is the fact that they are in state kids who commented on the pride they have in being able to play for their state school. Spreading that mentality and thought process may be just as important as how many points they score. Further, they're more likely to completely buy into the system and play hard instead of thinking everything should just come easy.

I think they could both develop into very solid role type players in a couple years. Every great team has them. If they can land some of the big boys with the remaining spots coupled with our current freshman crop I think it's nothing but a positive.

It takes a blend, for sure. If it was as simple as having the best talent, Calipari would have many more vacated national titles under his belt.
