What a huge series for Mizzou to win. I'd imagine that puts us in the top 25. That's a series win over a #6 team at the time and a #4 or 5 team now.

TB has quoted Tex as saying Benes may be about 1 week away and he's biting at the chomp to get out there.

Next week we go to UT. A series we should win and the icing on the cake would be to sweep the series. They are 14-14 on the season and 4-8 in conference. Lost 2 of 3 against both Vandy and UF. Got swept by UGA but won 2 of 3 against a down OM.

Updated OP with this weeks schedule. 2 highlights. 1. No midweek game at this point. 2. All 3 games on television this weekend against UT on SEC Network. Love the SEC Network.

He usually plays on the left side of the infield. SS in high school. Pro scouts say he may be able to play pro ball at SS but might eventually be best suited at 3B. My guess is, and what I'd be happy with, is for him to just DH and not necessarily play in the field. 1. Less stress on the knee only hitting. 2. Our defense has been pretty solid, even at SS and 3B.

Instead of messing with the defensive alignments, I'd put him at DH and keep Harris in LF. Then rotate whoever TJ wants in RF between Pearson/Ivory/Munson/Akmon

Next year my guess is, and it's just a guess:

1b Lavy
2b Lester (playing well at 3b but played here before)
3b Howard (same as Lester. He played 3b last year)
SS Benes

Quick look at what UT has been using as weekend starters(numbers are for conference games).

Marks: 4.00 ERA; 31 K; 12 BB; .162 o/avg - Has had 2 quality starts going 8+ inning and 2 poor starts, lasting 5.1, both of which were his last 2 starts.
Owenby: 3.68 ERA; 16 K; 4 BB; .214 o/avg - Again, 2 solid starts and 2 horrendous ones. Not as much of a strike out pitcher.
Serrano: 12.10 ERA; 10 K; 9 BB; .400 o/avg - We can only hope they throw him against us. Not sure if he's the coach's son, but he's not been good so far.

Mizzou has a huge edge with the pitching staffs. None of the UT pitchers are really shut down pitchers. Every other game or so, they'll throw a decent but not overwhelming game but then every other game they also get blown up.

Defensively, they're averaging almost 2 errors per game in conference play, which doesn't help when you're not getting the pitching that gets you out of trouble.

.311 Senzel 2b
.184 Simcox SS
.302 Stewart LF

Those three have been consistents at the top of the lineup. After that, it seems they are searching for someone who can hit.

As of late, Lee (.368) has gotten the chance at 1b.

At C, they rotate Houser(.357) and Santiago(.091).

Really, after that, almost everyone they've rotated in are hitting .250 or less, some under .100. I just hope the pitching doesn't ease up seeing this as an easier weekend after the last couple that they have had.

He is the coach's son, and was a highly touted prospect out of high school. For whatever reason he can't put it together.

ETA: Was Bond a catcher in HS? He's going to be a good one.

The SEC tournament is a 12 team tournament. Here's the current standings(I don't know tie breakers, so they're there randomly), and each teams remaining schedule.

Vandy(10-2): OM, @SC, MU, @UK, UF, @Bama
A&M(9-2): MSU, Ark, @LSU, @UT, SC, @OM
LSU(8-4): Aub, @UGA, A&M, @MSU, MU, @SC
MU(8-4): @UT, Bama, @Vandy, OM, @LSU, UK
UF(6-6): SC, @MSU, UK, @UGA, @Vandy, Aub
SC(6-6): @UF, Vandy, @UT, Aub, @A&M, LSU
UGA(5-7): @Bama, LSU, @Aub, UF, @UK, Ark
Ark(5-7): UK, @A&M, MSU, @Bama, UT, @UGA
OM(5-7): @Vandy, @Aub, Bama, @MU, MSU, A&M
MSU(5-7): @A&M, UF, @Ark, LSU, @OM, @UT
UK(4-7): @Arky, UT, @UF, Vandy, UGA, @MU

UT(4-8):
Bama(4-8):
Aub(4-8):

Looks like UK could benefit from a cancelled game. They'd be in the group with UT/Bama/Aub fighting for a last spot but that cancellation actually benefited them.

For those really hoping...no, no way we catch Vandy with the remaining schedules. Vandy has a much easier road. The good news is we have a couple game lead at least on the 3 teams immediately below us and the head to head, which I'd assume comes into play as a tie breaker. If the team keeps playing like they have been, I could see them getting a 3 or 4 seed depending on how the LSU series goes (it's @LSU, so probably a 4 seed). The importance of that? In a 12 team bracket, the top 4 seeds get a bye and start in the double elimination portion of the bracket.

Can't blame the kid for choosing pro ball if he does, but damn I hope he chooses 3 years of college.

Would be HUGE when it comes to pitching. If you can get a top 4 seed AND win your 1st two games, it would be even bigger.

Tuesday - Bottom 8 play to move on
Wednesday - 4 winners play the 4 top seeds
Thursday - 4 losers from Wed play and 4 winners play
Friday - The 2 winners from the winners bracket get day off.
Saturday - Those 2 winners play the 2 winners coming out of losers bracket
Sunday - Championship game

IF IF IF it fell right, you'd have McClain on Wed, Houck on Thursday, Friday off, Fairbanks(and everyone not named McClain/Houck) on Saturday and McClain/Houck coming back on Sunday.

Conversely, if we have to play every day:

Tuesday - McClain
Wednesday - Houck
Thursday - Fairbanks
Friday - Miles
Saturday - I'd guess McClain or someone who hasn't started and save McClain for Sunday. That's a short rest.
Sunday - McClain or Houck, depending on Saturday.

Such a huge advantage to the bye and to winning the 1st two games and yes, I like our chances against almost anybody in one game with either McClain or Houck on the mound.

God I hope TJ isn't trying to get cute. Since we start the series on Thursday, he's going with Miles(usually our midweek starter) on Thursday, then McClain on Friday and Houck on Saturday.

Tiger's Notes on Series with links to stats, radio and secnetwork

Miles has pitched well, but generally against lesser competition. I also get that it means only 6 days rest for McClain and Houck and Fairbanks if you bump them up a day to keep the order. But man, I hate the idea. I just hope he has a quick hook if he struggles. The good news is UT doesn't seem to have as much depth with the bats.

Latest D1baseball projections have Mizzou a 2 seed still but now in Illinois' pool, with Cal State Fullerton the 3 seed and Ball State the 4 seed.
