Whether you like it or not, Barry Odom has proven that there is reason to believe in his program.

4 wins in a row (versus bad opponents) is what should have been expected, and he has delivered by blowing them all out in convincing fashion. His win total has improved over last year. This team looks to be playing competent football.

Fingers crossed he'll win the final two, but regardless of those games, I believe (and I think Sterk will agree) that he has earned a year 3.

Let's make a damn bowl game now!

BO deserved the criticism he got early in the season. Getting blown out by Purdue is/was unacceptable. Regardless of how some on this board took it the negative remarks, all of us want the best for Mizzou and wanted us to win out. I’m optimistic about what this team can accomplish next year with so many returning players again (and hopefully Lock).

I just hope BO and the staff improves the recruiting. We have some talented players that weren’t highly recruited playing well, but Mizzou can recruit better than the likes of Ole Piss, USCe, and Kentucky.

I'd agree with that. Team has made nice strides, albeit against bad competition.

He may have earned more than that. Wouldn't surprise me to see Sterk give him a raise and extension to help on the recruiting trail.

Next year could be rough though with a tougher schedule if Lock leaves early.

Extension for sure, not sure about the raise.

Maybe he pulls a GP and uses the extension to get a raise for the assistants.

This would be a very wise move IMO.

Keeping Haley, Heupel, and Elarbee would be my biggest priority after finding a DC to help Walters with the back end of the defense.

Hey Nuke, I know you enjoy the Xs and Os of the game.

What's been the difference on defense between the first and second five? Personnel? Personnel growing into their role and improving? Quality of opponent? All of the above?

How do you see this season carrying over to next, personnel wise? Expound if you can.

My bet is Walters becomes the DC. BO will still call the defense, so we will need a new LB coach.

And it football goes to 10 assistants maybe add a CB coach/special teams coordinator.

He did, and to his credit he owned that criticism. Him and the coaching staff have worked hard to turn things around and to their credit they've pulled it off.

Yes, y'all got a streak of bad teams to play and that always helps to right the ship. And you finish with two bad teams because Vandy and Arkansas are both on life support.

Sometimes the schedule gods smile on you. Nothing wrong with that. Sometimes they'll put the weenie to you so it balances out.

He does need to recruit better. Unfortunately, much like Arkansas after we quit the SWC, y'all have been effectively black balled from playing any decent teams from Texas (unless A&M rolls around on the schedule) and that has diminished your ability to recruit a major area that is close to you.

Odom is going to have to wall off Missouri from poachers and raid bordering states for talent and that is often easier said then done.

Odom let Cross have another shot at installing Read 2 and it failed miserably. It's a great system but there are over 150 different calls and corresponding keys to Patterson's system. Walters and Odom never used it and Cross was the guy who had to make it work. It didn't on any level and made the second level of the defense play extremely slow. After Auburn they spent the next two weeks changing back a traditional 4-3 look and Cover 2/3 with a lot of A gap pressure. Getting Logan back and the quality of opponent factors in but guys are hitting their landmarks and making faster reads. 38 TFls and 16 sacks are the end result of the change. That helps the back end of the defense out.

I am still not sold on Walters but he will have another season to make a believer out of me.

I don’t think not playing Texas teams matters much with recruits now. Every game is on tv.

Mizzou’s problem is that GP moved most of his recruiting resources away from Texas.

BO has changed that. Mizzou needs to be able to recruit Missouri, Texas, some in Georgia and the upper Midwest.

How does it get better from here though? The players y'all have now are losing years, Moore is gone, which is great, but also bad I guess. The recruiting is really about as bad as it can get. They needed to accomplish something this year to pick up on that, and although they are coming on now, they gave away the opportunity to start the season.

I would never consider wins over Florida and Tennessee as being against "weak competition".

Missouri just beat two SEC blue bloods in back to back weeks. Don't give them anything less than a standing ovation.

Most of the offense and defense will be back next year. If Lock and TBJ come back Mizzou can be good next year.

Also recruiting isn’t that bad right now. There’s 6 weeks until signing day, there will be more commits. Some of which are currently committed to other schools now.

Cross killed this defense for 2 years. Probably Barry's biggest blunder has been his defensive coaching staff since he was hired.

With that said, I think we still make a lot of stupid mistakes Barry will need to clean up in the offseason to give this team a shot at the East next year.

If Lock and TBJ return this team has a shot at 10 wins. The entire offense except Moore will return, and I'm hoping Ballard can step in for him. Our RB situation will be unbelievable and the OLine will dominate.

Big things on the horizon if Barry can keep getting the defense to improve.

Biggest guy we'll miss next year is Sherrills, that guy has been a beast lately.

Put me in the worried about our secondary still, especially safety.

TBJ won't be back. He'd be stupid. Go get your money young man.

Lock...IDK. He'll definitely have the opportunity but I think the guy genuinely enjoys Mizzou and being in college. He'd have a lot more hype heading into next year as well.

The NFL knows TBJs injury history, you think they will waste a pick on a guy who cant stay healthy?

If he comes back next year, stays healthy and dominates, he's a first rounder.

In my mind he needs to win at least one of the final 2. I'm likely alone on this, but he has yet to win my SEC road game. He needs to win an SEC road game to earn that 3rd year IMHO.
