I'm hoping Mauk could be the gunslinger we were told he was out of high school. JF getting hurt was a shot to the gut today after that big win.

I agree reedus to a point. Until Mauk gets some experience, we won't know for sure. Thats why they have coaches. It's not only Mauks responsability to perform well, but the coaching staffs responsability to have him ready and play to his stregths. Kid is a flat out passing machine and can run the ball. I remember when Franklin was looked at in the same way.

Yeah, I should probably temper my statements. What I should say is that instead of feeling confident moving forward, I feel like it's game one again. Have no idea what to expect and therefore don't expect to win.

Tough defense for him to get his first start against.

The good news is we don't need Mauk to do it all on his own. He has a lot of good skill players around him and he just needs to give his wideouts a chance to make a play.

He wasn't asked to do much today, but I can't complain about how he looked. He fought for the first down on his first play and he let DGB go up and make a play. A pass like that probably won't fly against Florida, though.

The blind swing pass was pretty concerning.

What happened to all the Mauk fans from over the summer?

I was admittedly one of them. But he was given his chance and once he was actually given snaps, he didn't show me what I thought I would see. Franklin showed me a lot more than I thought I would see. We shall see.

Very tough D to start against but on the other side, we are catching a break with the quality of offense Florida has.

Yeah, that was pretty bad.

I was more concerned with what i saw out of him against Toledo. The instant he felt pressure, he just ran around until he got sacked. I was pleased he seemed a bit more composed today. I guess I just don't expect much out of him.

Maty can look at this past game as his first win. I think it gives him tremendous confidence as well as some valuable experience. I have faith he can get it done. We don't have to score a lot to win next week if our D keeps playing the same. Could get his first two wins against UGA and Florida. If he does that, his confidence will be through the roof.

Confidence is key, we didn't see much from him today. I think we need to lean on the 3 RB's on Saturday and then see if we can get Maty to unleash some deep balls to DGB and the crew.

Meh, your very knowledgable reedus. Everybody has thier opinions and feelings about this. I just think Mauk has the potential to be a good QB. I never thought Franklin was a great QB. He had his strong point and weak points. Much like Mauk does. Franklin was a backup once also.

Oh well. not in my hands and it's a wait and see what Mauk can do. He'll go through some growing pains.

I'm with you jafo and I'm all in with Mauk. Ain't nothing can be done about it anyhow. He's the man and until he shows me he can't do it I will believe he can. You've sold me. Not that it took much selling. Just had to get my bit of wallowing out of the way after hearing the Franklin news.

I hope Maty doesn't get big eyes in the SEC but it's going to be rough going forward. At least it's not a rerun of CB.

We atleast have one thing on our side with the Mauk situation. He had to come in against Georgia and seal that game, it was by no means over. He was able to do it, albeit his passes could have easily went the other way for TD's, they did not.

That's gotta go a mile for this kids confidence, now with the preparation for him all week he will hopefully be in a good place come Saturday.

The biggest issue is we are playing probably the toughest most athletic defense of the year. They will be quick to jump on any of his mistakes, and I hope he can limit the INT's, because I believe they will happen.

We'll be different with Mauk, and that might be okay. I always think back to what the Bears did with Kyle Orton when Grossman went down. Conservative (but not too conservative), get him in there and don't let him make mistakes.

I think there's still a shot as long as there's not 30 fricking swing passes/backfield passes a game.

Keep it simple, give him passes he can complete, and get it going.

Spot on. I don't know why everyone is throwing in the towel.

- Florida can't score. If ever we had to break in a new quarterback, trying to break one in against a team that struggles to score is a positive for Missouri.

- Our defense has been opportunistic all year. The pass rush is fierce. Even the tackling has improved from the fiasco of Ark ST.

- The offensive line adjustments this week were tremendous. They pwned us early, then were barely heard from the rest of the way.

- The running game was adequate, which was fine for the Georgia game. It will need to be better moving forward, but the potential is there.

- As for Mauk... Let's see what we have before raising the white flag.

As Mizzeaux says, different might still be OK.

Really, can it be any worse than it was with Berkstresser last year? I don't think so.
