Somehow this is not a surprise.
And nonsince, there are plenty of athletes that likely wouldn't be capable of a finance degree. They're athletes, not accountants. But perhaps the NFL could require athletes to put a % of their salaries into a trust so that there's something left for them after football.

I personally think all athletes should have at least an associates degree in finance or related field so they might stop wasting their future and their children's future.
I'll take this a step further and say it should be a requirement for all HS kids to graduate.
Not just the "people that will have money", A lack of understanding in how financial instruments work is part of the plan to keep poor people poor and in debt.

I can see your point I just don't think people on their own should be forced into it. People can choose to be poor and ignorant if they want.
I see this as an issue for the NFL, not America or the educational system. The NFL is responsible for putting millions of $ in the hands of these folks and a lot of it ends up going to drug lords, automatic weapons, drugs, hookers, etc. and creates problems as these ex players spin out of control and into poverty. These ex NFL players then resort to common criminal behavior and had the NFL taken time to require financial responsibility, maybe there would be just 1 or 2 less crimes out there.

This is a cultural issue. ESPN's 30 for 30 special on Bankruptcy proved it. It has to do with hip hop culture and personal responsibility.
Look, the players even admit it.

When a player takes their entire first check, cashes it, and then "makes it rain" on a strippers arse then there is most certainly a cultural aspect involved here.
Can you imagine taking a $50,000 paycheck, cashing it, and then blowing it on strippers in one night?

There will always be a segment of society who will never use the information given to them to their advantage.
IDGAF about those people.

NO, it's not racist. Culture =/= racist. I do think maturity has something to do with it though.
I don't think it's a race thing, but it is a culture thing. Can you imagine what Marshall Henderson would be doing with that kind of money?
