Bert is good at schmoozing but piss poor at evaluating. Not just Byers, bama doesn't offer bad players, but didn't he miss Crockett?

Yeah that's not accurate. He's actually put a ton of guys in the NFL between Wisconsin and now here. He's just lacking as a game day coach in the SEC.

He also didn't miss on Crockett. He signed two guys rated higher at RB. The #1 RB in Arkansas in that class and the #3 RB overall in the country. Crockett would have gotten an offer if they whiffed on those folks but they didn't.

Why is Bama offering him and not Arkansas? Seems to be a misevaluation by Bert, if that's the case.

I don't think you'll find anyone in Fayetteville that thought the kid would get qualified which is 100% why he wasn't offered. Has nothing to do with talent. If Bama thought he was going to qualify they wouldn't have dropped him either. As I said, great work by Mizzou to catch the kid when he made it.

That's fair, but Crockett was better than both of those guys last year.

I know he's put a bunch in the NFL, but how many were 3 stars? It's easy to evaluate 4 star players like montee ball, hunter henry, jonathan williams, etc. how many has he spotted that were underevaluated by the services? Charles Harris was a 2 star and will go in the first round. Ealy, ray, golden were all unknowns that Pinkel knew were better than their ranking. Sure i would like all the 4 star and 5 stars we can get but my point was about evaluation of the lesser knowns.

Oh yeah Crockett looks likes he's going to be a great one. I think we both came out on top in that deal honestly. Whaley and Hammonds will be two of our top playmakers this year and Crockett will have a full season as the #1. Should be a fun time for all.

Watt was recruited by butch jones and played for a season at central michigan and got no offer from wisconsin. Then after he left central michigan, he walked on at wisconsin. That is luck for bert since he still didn't see the potential and offer a scholarship.

Interesting.

Butch and Bert.

Well, I'm just glad we got Byers and Foster. I like the trend, especially regarding the Tiger 10.

This bodes well for us.

Take a look at the lineman and defensive players he scouted and developed. Bert is one of the best at this IMO.

Huge pick up IMO. He may get significant playing time this year even. I don't know which position he's best suited for at this point but man it would be nice if it was on the edge. We're getting kind of thin there currently and especially next year.

Howard, Williams, Agbam, Turner, Anderson...the only competition for 2018. Not a lot of proven play there. Hopefully someone rises this year. Byers could help with that.

Fantastic get...especially this late in the game. You can never have enough quality line depth.
