I know it's way too early, but what do you guys expect for our football record next year?
We should have a really good offense, but obviously the defense will be a question mark.
The schedule next year is much more favorable than this years schedule, so hopefully we can get to 7 or 8 wins. Hopefully more if the defense is much improved.
Thoughts?

Funny we thought coming into 2016 was the defense would be really good and the offense would be the question.

Looking at it right now, it appears there's a clear split as to what should be W's and L's. 6 pretty winnable games, and 6 pretty lose-able games. anything less than 6-6 would be bad, and anything more than 7-5 would be stellar.
I've been saying this for a while, this offense could really shock people. I could see us making a surprise(like 2012) while setting up for what should be our best season, in 2018.

Hard to tell how a Mizzou team will perform from year to year.
Just going by the Arkansas game which is fresh in my mind a non committal 6-6.
The offense seems too all or nothing. Not much for a mid - level pick them apart pass game. Maybe all or nothing will astound us next year or the staff makes some tweaks to get things more even. It was encouraging to see that 3 runs from Strong on 1st and goal at the 9 ended with a TD. The run game was good sometimes in some games to.
Arkansas moved the ball at will in the 1st half against the defense. In the second half they had 3 trips to the red zone and came away with 0 points. That is an accomplishment for the defense but the defense gave up many 3rd and longs on those drives.

I think 9 wins with the offense we will have is doable. It's really not a killer schedule. Your 3 toughest opponents are all at home (Auburn, Florida, Tenn)

Way too early. Who do we hire on the DL? Do we replace Cross? Can we land any immediate contributors to close out this class?
I'll say this. The schedule isn't that bad. Start off with 4 home games. Replace WVU with Purdue and LSU with Auburn (at home). The East is still in flux and the offense looks might promising with virtually everyone returning and Lock in year 2 with Heupel.
There is a lot to like, but that defense....

I think Arkansas at home holds serve against Mizzou. We have the oddest rivalry in college right now because the two programs are so very similar but we have so little history together.
That having been said... 7-5 and an outside contender for the East. More if you win a couple of a toss up games on your schedule.
Beat Florida, which is very doable, and I think Missouri is in position to make a very solid run at the East.

Odom, Cross(provided he stays/is retained), Walters, and Brown are completely rebuilding the 2nd level and back end of the defense. New MLB, new SLB, possibly a new WLB, two new CBs. Even the starters at SS and FS are toss ups going into the spring.
A new Dline coach is getting a unit with a 3 Tech coming off his second knee surgery, a decent NT and no proven depth behind either. Frazier is the only proven commodity at DE although I really like Howard.
If the offense isn't 35+ PPG good, they won't make a bowl game.

Put me down as optimistic about the defense.
I think Harris caused more problems for the flow of things than we realize.
That combined with a number of other things. Odom learned and grew.
Howard showed us two years ago he can do it. He passes the eye test. He'll be good. No reason to think Tre Williams isn't going to be very good.
8-10 wins if we are fortunate with the health of a handful of irreplaceable guys.

Just so many question marks on the defense.
The only guy I see as a sure thing is Frazier, and he's pretty damn good. Beyond that we have some guys I like, but we just have to have an awful lot of things go right to field a competent unit. Beckner has to come back strong. Moore has to fill in and play DT like he's capable. Howard and Williams have to move into prominent roles. And that's just the DL which is likely our strongest unit.
The back 7 is nearly a complete rebuild.

There's definitely question marks, but I'm optimistic about the potential answers for all of them. Plus I'm expecting a healthier environment for positive results.
Odom being DC 1a from day one, the likelihood there is more buy-in and cohesion from the unit as a whole with the drama over about the scheme change, high level people like howard, williams, ross, this new lb from tennessee stepping into the vacancies and the chance we get something impactful from juco.

The schedule is more favorable

The obvious response is "it depends on the defense" but we thought this year our offense would be suspect......anyway, IMO IF our defense is better than average we'll be in Atlanta, if not.....well frickity, frick, frick, shite.......and dammit to hell!

DE's are the only thing i'm feeling good about. Howard solid. Frazier typical zlineou player. Williams, remember they said he would have played some this year, but due to the depth it wasn't the best choice.
DT are a bit of a ?. Obviously TBJ will still be here, but he needs to put together a full healthy season. I'd like love to see a DT juco come in.
Linebackers may have the most upside tho. Could be amazing, could be just blah ok like this year.
I dont want to talk about the rest.

I see Mizzou winning 7 games with just normal maturation of the offense and young receivers, and another year with the O-line intact. If the defense solidifies...., perhaps win a couple more.
I believe Cross will be back...; one had to see the look Odom and Cross shared right after the last sack of Arkie's QB on 4th and goal from the 20. I believe Odom wants to keep and develop D Cross.

I want to see cross here for another season, but I want BO to continue to be the play caller.
