Depends on the old age question.

Offensive Line?

If we are solid to good, we are going to have a good team. If we are mediocre to average we will have an average team.

The rest of the roster looks good. Schedule is tough but that is a given.

I think it is important that we come out of the starting gate 3-0. After that there are probably half a dozen crapshoot games. Depending on how those fall will determine our fate.

Mississippi State football? Probably a 7

Tangent: what do y’all think of the balconies? I’m a fan. If they’re a success, I think they should throw them in on the east side as well.

Attendance has sagged lately. Having the upper deck corners takes away some of the atmosphere IMO. Has anyone heard what our capacity is at now with the balconies? Gotta be less right?

I like the balcony idea given the recent attendance issues. I’m excited we’ve got a 6:30 opener instead of 11:00. Don’t like the fact we play Arizona at 10:30 PM week 2 then go to LSU and don’t have another home game until 9/24. But I do like having UGA at home in November for the Veterans Day recognition game.

The NIL and other crap is sucking the life out of college football for me more and more each year. I like tailgating and taking the kids. All that to say I’m about a 6/10.

I feel the same. All the conference realignments, NIL, etc. has tarnished the appeal of college football with me. Will I watch? Most likely but being enthusiastic about it, not so much especially if State ends up being in the West playing Texas, OU, A&M, Mizzou, even arkansas to an extent more regularly than traditional SEC teams like Auburn, Bama, etc. that would just totally suck.

Pigs get fed and hogs get slaughtered. I could be totally wrong but chasing that mighty dollar could end up killing the appeal of the sport for many. Or maybe the new new will end up being better. Who knows really.

I posted something to this affect somewhere:

People are really not excited about Mississippi State football this year but why?

State returns more than almost anyone, record setting stuff happening on offense, defense had issues last year and that seems to be better with Davis coming back from injury and the influx of talent in the secondary. This team should be better than last year and it beat 2 teams that finished ranked a feat that took Mullen 9 years to accomplish.

Then, it's year 3 for Leach. His teams have always taken lots of time to get better due to the execution level this offense requires. His offense does not out athlete you but out execute you.

Easily two more wins last year with better kickers and that Memphis botched play. If WR's could have caught passes, OM game would have been different too.

So why so down?

Lackluster finish with losses to Ar, OM and the Bowl game no show.

People just don't like to watch the air raid, it can be boring watching dump pass after dump pass.

Lack of superstars. You just don't see any 1st round talent on this team. NO Jeffery Simmons types.

Swapped easy win Vandy for GA

A&M had #1 recruiting class

But:

Better special teams play, Leach has typically had good special teams and he has addressed it.

Older wins and this team is getting more mature. Our 19 year olds are not going to beat Alabama's 19 year olds but our 23 year olds might.

We should be excited to see what can happen, but we aren't. Maybe this is what is best. We always seem to do better when we have lower expectations.

I would also add that we haven’t had any MSU sports going on for 2 months which is a factor. Also, seems like our marketing department is lagging over where they’ve been in the past. No hype videos or updates from summer workouts, at least that I’ve seen. Maybe it will pick up when fall camp starts. I had some sort of email a couple of weeks ago from either the BDC or the alumni association about a free yard sign promoting football season. I thought that’s pretty cool so signed up to get one. Then I get an email Wed of last week telling me they’d be available to pick up at MSU night at the MS Braves game Thursday of last week. First, had no idea it was MSU night and 2 didn’t realize I’d have to drive from Madison to Pearl on a specific Thursday night and pay to get into the Braves game to get the sign. Not to mention I was out of town anyway. All that to say the thought behind it was good but the execution was poor.

In addition to the balconies I’d like to see them go ahead and close the south end zone with the hotel concept. Not really add seating but a rooftop bar with field view would be nice. Of course there would be some issues with the bar and rooms overlooking the field during closed practices.

I'm always excited for the start of our season ... the bigger question is how excited am I for it to be over.

I will always anticipate college football no matter what

3 or 4. We return a lot and a good Qb so normally I’d be excited but I worry Leach may be a wash up and of course we draw the toughest schedule in the nation. 7-5 is probably the ceiling if Leach doesn’t drop a head scratcher

Cohen has destroyed our athletics completely. Even baseball is now dead a year after a Natty.

Yea they need to keep traditional division rivalries. I want to play Auburn LSU Ole Miss every year. Indifferent on Bama though

I see MSU's ceiling at 9-3. Don't get why people are writing them off. I'm not the biggest Will Rogers fan but if he can keep improving and Cross' replacement is just decent then I could easily see the offense being at least as good as last year.

John Cohen has gotten us to a level never before seen. An actual national championship in baseball.

Saying Cohen has ruined athletics completely is ignoring the facts, especially in baseball.

Have you even been paying attention to baseball recruiting... After the MLB draft, our HS baseball signing class is a top five and the portal has brought us some really good players maybe 2nd only to LSU's. If they get that Stanford pitcher and maybe one more, you are looking at an Omaha roster and possible national seed.

Then reno of the Hump and two new exciting basketball coaches that are bringing in players. Basketball is in a better place than it has been in years.

He didn't fire Mullen. Leach just may prove to be the guy and even if he isn't this roster is better balanced with talent up and down the roster better than I have seen.

John Cohen was a complete fricking shite show the first 6 years he was AD. Baseball natty was bound to happen given the program. Don’t let 1 title in the sport we’ve always been good at shine the turd of a job he did prior.

As you know, One of my best friends is a MSU guy, and he will be my guest at the Bama game. So I keep up decently.

I think you have every right to be excited about this season. I can see you being 7-0 coming into T-Town.

- I believe you will have a top 10 defense. Remember, Leach has never had a defense because he was in leagues that didn't have the recruiting for it. The whole "Leach doesn't play good defense" is flawed. Ms St is not going to have a horrible defense.

- The offense was close to breaking out. The consistency of the run game is the main issue. When rushing 3, the OL and the RBs have to make them pay. Solve that, and the bigs will have a hard time and you will have a chance to win.

Who is the major concern?

Bama? Yeah, we will be nasty this year.

UGA? Yes, they recruit well, but look at the major losses on that defense. There's opportunity there.

LSU... You lost by 2... your return 18 starters and they return what ...5?

TAMU, you beat... And you have them at home.

Ark.... You beat them all over the field. You missed what, 4 FGs? Lost by 3? On the Road? They have lost Burks and more.

I just don't see how, with a much improved defense (I expect top 10) how you don't win 9.

BTW... thanks for allowing me to post on this board from time to time.

I do not get this BS. The baseball championship was not bound to happen. It never happened under Polk who is and was one the baseball minds ever.

Last I checked State is in the midst of the best decades ever in baseball with numerous Omaha runs and a title. That happened under Cohen's watch, not anyone else. You must have a personal beef with him.

He didn't fire Mullen and there was nothing he could have done to keep him. Every coach hired that year he left that could have been hired has been awful. At least he pulled the trigger quick on JOMO.

The jury is out on Leach but one thing is a fact, the roster is better now that it has been in a very long time.

Cohen ruined womens bball

He knows baseball so credit to him there. Everything else he has been meh. Leach is decent, we will see if he still has enough fire in him next 2 seasons to win 9+ games like he is known to do

This should be his breakout year. Georgia, OM should take a step back this year. Auburn sucks. LSU is rebuilding. Arky and UK will be tough. Aggie too. Bama is Bama

If we can get the leach upsets this year minus the head scratching losses we can win 9-10 games

Will's play has improved each year. Hope he has evolved a Spider Sense for the pass rush this year
