I'll most likely be in Memphis this weekend and am looking for bars, breweries, restaurants, things to see, etc. Any help is appreciated.

***Not a local***
I've been a few times. It's probably a tourist trap but I've always enjoyed Beale Street. Rendezvous has my favorite ribs ever

Go to Overton square. Several great bars and restaurants. Layayette's usually has a pretty good live band. If you've never been to Beale and are going to be in town multiple nights then you might as well do it just because, and Silky's is my go to.

Thanks
Yeah, I want to do one night of local stuff and the other Beale/whatever.
How are Memphis' breweries?

Never been to any tbh. Always hear good things about going on a tour at Ghost River.

Slope could probably help you out with this but he doesn't come around much anymore.

I figured you'd be all about that

I'm married and lame now, and stayed in Oxford primarily in my wilder years

I feel ya. Craft beer's kinda become my compromise now that I got binge drinking out of my system.

Wiseacre is the best brewery in town

Will add to the list
How would you fellas rate living in Memphis?

I don't, we live in Oxford. Have plenty of friends who do though. Most like it, but obviously live in good areas. Like anywhere in the south, it's all about being in a good spot. High point is a popular area for new grads and it's close to lots of fun stuff to do

I'm heading up that way to look at U of M law this weekend, just curious what folks on here have to say about the city.

I have heard good things about ghost river as well. Never been though.

Like others have said, midtown/Overton square are close to U of M and are the younger crowd areas. Also, I like ghost rivers stuff, just like wiseacres better. I'm sure ghost river probably has a good tour. We never go downtown unless we are going to a concert or something anymore. Grizzly games are fun if they are playing when you are there. Have fun
Also, rendezvous has a cool atmosphere that is worth seeing, but it's not the best bbq in town. There are several better. I suggest Central bbq

Thanks for the suggestions
I got a solid offer from U of M so I'm hoping this trip will help big time with my decision.

Yo yo yo.
There's a griz game on Friday. Those are rad. I'll be there.
I'll also be dt before the game for a lucky beer at silkys and then depending on the baby sitter situation id go to Bardog after.
For real though, I'll probably head home after the game because I'm so goddamn old and responsible.
There's 4 breweries here: wiseacre, Memphis made, ghost river, and high cotton. I've ranked those from best to worst. There's also a vodka place called pyramid, but their vodka tastes like tequila.
Overton square is crowded and that makes me angry. 4 years ago it was just bayou and boscos and now there are motherfrickers everywhere taking up parking spots.
I live in high point along with the rest of the waspy dildos in Memphis. It's overpriced and most of the people that live here are boring, but most of my friends live within a few blocks of me.
Broad ave is the current target for gentrification. All the shite there is stupid except for wiseacre.
I still like cooper young. Next door is my favorite bar.
Summer is my poplar. Save the greensward. And all that other shite.
Eta: I love Memphis for real though. I'd never live anywhere else.
