We've turned the corner.
2018: NIT Quarterfinals
2019: NCAA Tournament
2020: Top 4 SEC Finish, in NCAAT as long as no early SECT Exit
2021: Lose most of roster, preseason 12th, NIT Finals
If you told me at the beginning of the year this team finishes like they do I take it. Strong potential for next season. And playing 3 games in 4 days is rough for any team and I thought State did well, just didn't have enough energy Sunday and unfortunately getting screwed out of having Tolu Smith.
2022 is a year we will need to take a big step. And I feel like we can. MBB isn't the sport where we'll win every game. We will have some questionable losses. But getting some big time wins will happen. While I'm not one to dismiss the NIT like some teams, I'll say the goal is not to win the NIT it's to use it to build for next year. And we have done that. Think of it as a bowl game. Statistically speaking more percentage of teams make one in football than a NIT/NCAA Bid. I think there were moments from this past season like getting the Kentucky monkey off the back that will pay forward.

I know we have bitched about Howland but we have consistently been a solid team. Next year should be anywhere from a 5-8 seed tourney team imo

Agree with guys. This is a great example of why the NIT matters. Had we ended the season with a 37 point loss to Bama.....well ugggghhhh.
But getting three wins against three quality teams is a great run for this team. A big confidence boost with basically the whole team coming back.
Not having Tolu, especially that last game, hurt. We managed fine without him the first three games but against Memphis the added depth could have made a difference.
I do think a top five SEC season is possible next year and a bid to the NCAA is very attainable.

that Bama game was tough. The NIT run was awesome.
